60's On 6-Jocks-AWFUL!

I enjoy the music on the 60's channel as that's my generation but in my opinion the jocks are not very good. They really remind me of small market radio and for a national satellite service they should have better announcers. I mean Cousin Brucie was on WABC back in the day but he talks way too much and sounds like he has a mouth full of marbles. Plus when he put's callers on the air the bit's are too long and not edited. That goes for all the jocks. They should edit the calls before airing. Flash is a real drag in the mornings. He's pretty bad. Lou Simon is the best they have with his satellite Top 40 show. Great music LOUSY Jocks!

I too love the music on 60's on 6 but find the jocks talk way too much and the majority of them are HORRIBLE especially Cousin Brucie. What's really irritating is how they talk over the music. I tune in to listen to the music ... not the jocks.

Different strokes for different folks. Phlash is a good guy, and I enjoyed listening to him when I had an XM subscription.

Well he might be a nice guy but it does not make him a good jock. Also Terry Young,(motormouth) or whatever his silly name, is about as bad as they come. All this nonsense he put's on the air is just plain SILLY and not entertaining. I much prefer and ADULT delivery and info on the music. What was radio 40 years ago does not work today.

Lee Abrams wanted XM's '60s channel to be a reflection of the decade. Terry Young actually did Top 40 radio in Philadelphia. Phlash Phelps is younger and his resume is full of short gigs in small and midsized markets, but he's got a following on XM. Sirius would rather have its stations that play oldies sound like contemporary, major-market, big-chain oldies stations: slick, glib and ultimately soulless. I'd rather hear the former, but I realize there are probably more people who prefer the latter, especially those who like the music but aren't old enough to have memories of '60s Top 40 radio.

I really enjoy Cousin Brucie's shows on 6. He has personality that local radio is missing. On some of his shows they do have pre-recorded calls edited, and some shows (Usually Saturday nights) he takes calls live (unedited)

In my humble opinion as a non radio person and just listener, the jocks on the 50's channel are much more entertaining than anyone on the 60's channel

That's funny because I think the jocks are okay, but I don't care for the music. The playlist is completely burnt out, they need to add some variety, more than just top 10 songs. It sounds too much like KRTH. Very limited playlist.

The problem is that "burnt out" is a foreign concept to millions and millions of '60s music fans who have stayed faithful to FM oldies stations over the decades. Their reasons for switching to satellite have nothing to do with getting to hear different songs. Rather, they're finding the music of their favorite decade becoming increasingly marginalized on FM as oldies stations transition to classic hits and work '80s music into their playlists. They're not even hearing big hits like "Glad All Over" and "Wishin' and Hopin' " on FM anymore, because room has to be made in the 500-song power rotation for "We Built This City" and "Sussudio."

Yes, there are big hits that Sirius XM is ignoring -- see xmfan.com's decades discussion board for an excellent series of postings on this topic (Would you believe that no decades channel regularly plays "Bridge Over Troubled Water"?) -- but I have a feeling that their absence is barely noticed by subscribers who are grateful that someone is still regularly playing a thousand or so '60s titles.

I believe that CTListener has hit the nail on the head and summed things up pretty well.

Merry Christmas and a Great 2011 to all!

I like the music and the jocks Phlash and Terry are great! I like the music too but always looking for more variety. It still beats the heck out of what's on my local radio. If I get tired of the playlist I just go somewhere else for awhile (50's, 70's, Watercolors or someplace else).

Agreed. Local radio around me is AWFUL.

That said, Phlash and Terry aren't what they were prior to the merger. They were given more free reign under XM, and the shows weren't so stop-start when the jingles and liners and overall production matched their energy level. Now they both sound like fish out of water.

Here's a great clip of Phlash doing his thing back in the day. It's behind the scenes so you don't get the full produced show, but it's still a great sample of how things sounded when they were a well-oiled machine.

Ask Phlash where he had more independence to do what he wants to, under XM or under SiriusXM, you might be surprised. 8)

Before Mel K merged XM and Sirius and slashed the staff, the oldies stations used to be great.... Now they have limited playlists, and fewer jocks. And the dynamic range sucks. I still listen but find myself more and more listening to WGVU a Public station from Michigan. Best playlist of oldies I've ever heard.

No waythe decades channel 6 just needs more songs in the rotation, they seem to play the same set of songs over and over, just like fm,ignoring the niche songs and the other songs that ARE out there to play.
