610 WIP callers

Has the air-talent on 610 been told not to put as many callers on the air by the PD? It seems like latley most hosts are talking for a while squeezing in a caller and then talk a little more and then the break comes..Ive noticed it alot lately. Idk...I would think with all te Eagles signings and with te Phillies doing so good more callers would be put on the air...I enjoy the listeners on air because they often ask questions that I have that the hosts never seem to answer unless promted by a caller.
On another note does it seem like the hosts are taking alot of timeoff in the last six months? I know people go on vacation but it seems like the schedule is mixed up all the time...that can't be good for ratings.

Maybe the callers aren't there. The ratings have not been good. It's possible that the same people call in day after day, and the pool of different callers just isn't that deep. I suppose it's better to have the hosts carry the conversation then to have the same old people with the same old opinions on the air day after day.

Man, sports radio in this town really sucks.

I don't think thats it...with all the phillies and Eagles have done lately I would guess here are plenty of callers.

You would guess there'd be plenty of listeners, too. But the numbers say otherwise. There are apparently 159,000 people who listened to WIP in May and didn't in July.

Maybe they lost the listeners because of 97.5....people going back and forth between te stations.

WIP hosts have been around so long that I know what they are going to say before they open their mouth.Same for their regular callers. Other than Didinger who really knows his footbal Not one of them is enlightening and gives you insight that you dont already know. Most of them simply repeat what they hear on NFL Prime Time or Comcast Post Game Live.

97.5 should have come in and given a boost to sports radio in this town but imo they did the exact opposite. They just watered down an already bad product. 97.5 basically copied WIPs exact format with even lesser talent than WIP had. Same stale heavy Eagles talk, the NFL Schills every Friday, abandonment of everything in sports not Phillies/eagles, etc etc. .

I heard a promo the other day that they were making changes. Something about 'we asked our listeners for input and you'll be hearing the changes soon' then followed by supposed listeners comments.
Sounded a bit cheesy... maybe this ties in to what you've been noticing.
I hadn't listened for a while and the first day I tuned back in, I heard that particular promo.

I'm surprised they haven't flipped 94.1 already. With the first pre-season game tomorrow, it would have been the perfect time to launch the new format. They could have started stunting Monday or Tuesday and had it lead up to the launch...then the game. Now, they'll have to redo all the Eagles game imaging once they get around to flipping the format. Not good forethought there. Running the "changes" promo hints that something is up. Get to it already!

Please get rid of rhea on that morning show she does nothing but read updates and babble on about her take on sports shes the white robin Quivers

People going back and forth would be counted in the cume number. These 159,000 people (the reduction in cume from May to July) are people who didn't listen to the station at all, all month.

It'd be a double shame up this way if WIP flips to FM.

Mostly, it'd mean yet *another* frequency lost on what used to be called the 'For Music' dial. When this latest radio-management scurry will end -- to the lone floating parts of the Orca to SOS for help with no music -- is anyone's guess.

Decidedly a secondary concern is that I get WIP very well here in Schuylkill County. The most faithful Philly FM signal here is 106.1. WYSP gets shredded by the closer 94-KX out of Sunbury. 'Yeah, big deal. So Green can't hear 'em on FM. Break my heart'.
Well, at least I said it was secondary.

Call me (all shout it) old fashioned, but I always liked WIP through their sports years. And I always liked Howard Eskin. And they put me on the air a few times. I just hope, with that big 610 signal, that they're not going to go cliff diving with the exodus crowd without practice.

forget i even said that now that they moved eskin out of afternoon drive i think WIP could end up on 94.1 sooner then we think
