610 WIP now simulcasting on WYSP HD-3

Scanning the radio dial yesterday and I noticed WIP can now be heard on WYSP HD-3. Seems like a move in response to WPEN 950 also being heard on WMGK HD-3. Also, WOGL-FM is now back to broadcasting in HD with a multicast stream on HD-2 (Sounds of the 70s, I think...). I wonder if WPHT will be added as an HD-3 on WOGL...

A heartfelt thank you to CBS from the six people in the Philly metro with HD radios. ;)

Is that a sign KYW is moving to an HD1 really soon?

If AM HD is supposed to be the cure to poor AM reception, why are AM stations simulcasting on HD2s and HD3s?

Get rid of the IBUZ on AM, keep the FM simulcast.

As one of the 6 people listeningI totally agree get rid of HD radio on AM! It sucks, so does WOGL's HD signal in the Willow Grove area!

Didn't HearPhilly.com used to be heard on WYSP's HD-3 channel?

AM HD is supposed to be the cure to poor AM sound quality. It is not a cure to poor reception. The signal is what it is, and interference is what it is. If you can't get an analog AM because you're inside a steel building or you're under a power line, you won't get it even if it's digital.

IMO, the best sound quality for AM programming is on the internet. CBS's stations sound pristine on Nobex Radio Companion on my Blackberry, on the AOL web client, and especially on podcasts.

Best Buy just began selling a store-brand portable HD Radio for $50. It's FM only! IOW, the only way to hear KYW and WIP on it is on WYSP HD2 and 3. And, no way to hear WPHT at all.

Microsoft's next Zune is supposed to have an HD Radio tuner in it. I wonder if it will be FM only, too.

I guess this is why AM operators are simulcasting their AMs on FM HD subchannels. We should see WPHT on WOGL HD3 soon, I guess.
