610 WIP- why is there hardly no mention on CBSPhilly?

I am out of the Philly area (down in hotlanta), so why has it seemed like CBSphilly.com has forgotten about 610WIP, if WIP's signal is not fully simulcast?

CBS only cares about money.

610 is pennies to them.

I agree with your signature, CBS has ruined radio... And television, CBS is pathetic; trying to push talk radio on FM, trying to push the modern jersey show type shows...

Enough about my bias.

94WIP is the primary band. CBS barely even works with KYW and CBSPhilly - they show the logo and that's it. Despite KYW being the cities most succesful signal... even it being on AM radio.

Yeah... I don't even know what to say.

The primary signal of WIP changed from 610 to 94.1. In order to get its AM listeners to make the switch, plus take listeners from their FM oponent, they must carefully promote the new signal. The only promotion can be of 94-WIP. There are still people, like myself, who are listening to the AM as their primary source of sports talk. CBS must change that.

Once most listeners have moved from AM to FM for WIP, then CBS can try to market whatever they plan to air on 610.

Keeping sports on the AM is smart. It gives them flexibility to carry other PBP like NCAA Football, the NFL, and NCAA hoops plus some local colleges while keeping the main product...sports talk..and the main teams..on the FM. It's a double whammy against the Fanatic..they have no major PBP with their only offerings generally coming from ESPN.

CBS has sort of an awkward gyration with KYW since it took over the Westinghouse group. Despite CBS ownership of it, it's not really a full fledged CBS news outlet say, like WCBS in NY. KYW still actively has affiliations with ABC, CNN and Accuweather along with CBS obviously. I'm sure that plays a part in lack of full on CBS branding as you're looking for it.

Right...and WBZ-AM 1030 of Boston uses the occasional news story from ABC News, despite being a big part of the CBS Boston cluster (WBZ-AM 1030, WBZ-FM 98.5, WODS-FM 103.3, CBS channel 4 and MY channel 38).

The top rated stations in Hartford belong to CBS radio: WRCH-FM 100.5 (AC), WTIC-AM 1080 (N/T), WTIC-FM 96.5 (Hot AC) and WZMX-FM 93.7 (Hip Hop/R&B). CBS does not own any television in this market, although NBC does own it's affiliate here (WVIT-TV channel 30).

I feel bad for you, I am glad that Greater Media and Clear Channel own most of this market. I'd like to see Radio One's 103.9 and 100.3 be sold to Townsquare or Delmarva, but I don't see that happening till Radio One goes further down the toliet. They've never had a chance in Philly, competing some of our most well known stations and longest-running stations? WUSL? WDAS? Yeah, good luck with that R1. Flip that 100.3 sucker back to Y-100 before it's too late :D 103.9 was also a nice rock FM before you snatched that up, and 103.9 is a very powerful station for it's class. It goes well down to the Mason-Dixon MD-PA border. However, I only really want to see Y-100 once-more. As a harder-alt-rocker. RFF is too soft for my tastes.

My experiences with CBS have been nothing but painful. They've shot down YSP, taken no action on the HD-3 problems, and minimized all it's "expenses".

Not to mention, CBS Radio's lack of community reach, unlike Clear Channel and Greater Media, who are always helping this city.

Granted all this has reasons for why it's like this, and my hopes are never going to be seen again, I'll live on with my nostalgia and accept what it is, that YSP will never be seen again, and Y100/WPLY is dead for a long time.

CBS does what it does to make money, because that's what they were founded to do. I don't need any clarifications on how bizzare and hopeless I sound. I'm aware, just very nostalgiac.

If memory serves me correctly, Westinghouse actually bought CBS and then Westinghouse Broadcasting changed its name to CBS. CBS did not buy Westinghouse. Does KYW-AM still have affiliations with AccuWeather? I only hear the CBS-3 people giving the forcasts now on 1060.

WingBowl??? Just kidding. I really don't listen to any CC stations but yes, GM especially Preston & Steve with the Camp Out for Hunger, the I Bleed for Preston & Steve blood drive, the things Pierre does, etc... that stuff helps the Greater Philly region. Wait, I remember, CBS does have an Alex's Lemonade telethon each year broadcast live from CBS-3/CW-57. I believe all the CBS radio stations promote this too. They raised a lot of money last year to help CHoP and other hospitals to kill pediatric cancer.

Officially it was a merger with a bunch of divestitures and the CBS name living on, so I suppose your account is closer than mine. Accuweather is used less and less but I still hear it on the weekends.

IIRC, there were 3 station groups: CBS (1210, 98.1), Infinity (610, 94.1), and Westinghouse (1060, 93.3). I believe Westinghouse bought CBS first. It kept the Westinghouse name for a time, but later renamed itself as CBS after spinning off the non-broadcast assets. It later acquired Infinity and then had to divest itself of one of the FM stations (it chose 93.3).

CC has something called "Clear Channel Communties" - they do little things in the area, such as spiff up school-areas or clean up highways. It's not big, but it counts.

And yeah, Greater Media does a lot! The campout for hunger was great!

Have you Seen the CBS Cares tv promo on the Colonoscopy!

Honestly...

I don't like any of CBS's shows, rarely listen to KYW, never to OGL, never to PHT, and not once to WIP-FM or AM. (untill the games start, that is)

It would make near no impact on me if CBS never existed. I'd be happier, we'd have YSP still... Or at least music on 94.1.

Anyway; CBS Cares? It's a small project: seems CC has put more effort then CBS..

I agree with you.... in the next 3 years 610 will not be sports they are simply moving everyone over and will change the AM format

A bargain basement option for spillover sports. Seems like a logical approach.
