610 WTVN's John Corby passes at 61.

Got in the car around 3:30 Saturday and didn't have a good feeling when I turned on 610 and people were talking at length about Corby (before explicitly saying what happened). I knew he had been off at least Thursday and Friday, potentially earlier in the week, with Sterling sitting in. Was shocked when they actually said he'd died.
Cause I have seen from mutual friends of ours (I never met or knew Corby personally) was a massive heart attack. One of them mentioned that he was a heavy smoker.
I'll be the first person to say I thought Corby's show wasn't quite as good in recent years. Occasionally it sounded like he was just reading wire stories word for word. But still, I listened and almost always enjoyed and agreed. Afternoons in this town will be much less without him for us listeners, and everything I've heard says he was a first-rate person as well. RIP, John.

Got to listen from 3 to around 4:30, then again around 6 when Corby's widow called in. That was tough to listen to. I think they might have gone until 8 ... when I got in the car after work at about 7:58, the usual signoff music was playing an hour later than it otherwise would have.

The tribute show on Monday started at 2 PM and went until 8 PM. They played the usual Corby closing music at 8 PM at the request of a caller in the 6 PM hour. The cowbell was missing from the top of each hour.

I missed his widow. Did she she'd any insight? Sterling did a good job hosting and kneedING it back together.
