620 AM changes call letters to WAKY

The audio quality on 100.1 is pretty good too, it sounds nothing like it did when they were "testing" last month.

I still wonder what the long term plan is. Three WAKYs? WAKY on 620 and 100.1 and something else on 103.5?

La Poderosa posted this about an hour ago to indicate that they are "currently off air." But not saying anything else, at all...

They continue to post on Facebook. There have been three more posts since that one. This photo is also now their profile photo.

And another post just an hour ago. Don't know what it says but notice how the 620 in their logo is blanked out.

I don't know what they're up to but it looks like they won't let go of "La Poderosa"

They didn't even make much of an effort to get rid of the 620, it looks like somebody just used Microsoft Paint to do that.

I have no idea what they're up to either, but remember, this was the same station that was telling people on Facebook to listen to them on 100.1 last month... so I don't think they quite know what they're up to either.

Firefox is giving the malware message because the site did contain malware (in fact, it appeared to be hacked for some time, it was nothing related to La Poderosa at all), but I don't think that it does anymore. This "new" site was just launched today I think, as the website contained the jibberish spam yesterday. Those warnings on Firefox take a little time to go away. Other browsers seem to have no issue opening it. Although I can't really tell if malware is actually there or not, since I use Mac.

There isn't much worth looking at there though, it is just a giant play button that plays an online stream of the station. That wasn't there just yesterday.

That's odd, I had no warnings for it in Chrome or Safari... but then again, that was on Mac (it's not impossible to be infected with malware on Mac, but it is much, much more difficult for attacks to happen). The website was definitely hacked or something before (I skipped past the security warning on Firefox before just to see what was there, since I don't really fear those warnings on Mac) and it was one of those "content farm" spam sites with ads all over the place, now it is literally just a big play button and a poster for one of their events at the J-Town Ramada and nothing else. I still get the warning on Firefox when I try to load it though.

The warnings do not necessarily mean there is malware on there now, it just means at some point in recent history (they give a date of February 12th), there was malware found on there. In any event, it's not really worth going to though, and it isn't worth taking a risk to see what is there if you want to play it safe. It's just La Poderosa back alive and well... and even still identifying as WTUV 620.

They are (almost) starting to acknowledge the existence of the translator and AM...

They posted that on Facebook as their cover photo for about 30 minutes yesterday, before taking it down and putting up a standard WAKY 103.5 image. Of course, technically the translator is still just operating with a construction permit according to the FCC.

I still wonder if they'll keep all three as WAKY long-term. That seems to be the plan, but also it seems that (at least around here) a lot of simulcasts tend to get abandoned rather quickly and something else ends up on one of the signals.

Move Big Cat from 105.5 maybe? They're really not a player at all in the Louisville market where they are right now, but they face an even bigger challenge on 105.5 when/if iHeartMedia gets their translator for WNRW up and running, which happens to be at 105.5, up and running. We already have three country music stations (counting WRKA), but I feel like they could do it "better" than any of them if they really tried to make a move here. I wonder if Coyote Calhoun could be coaxed out of retirement? Of course then the question would become what to do with 105.5, and it becomes sort of a circular problem.

The thing about 103.5 is that it is a pretty strong signal that pretty much covers the entire metropolitan area, even if it is located in Radcliff... there are a lot of things they could do with it.

Please not another country station! How about an active rock format similar to the fox when it was on 100.5.
Speaking of 100.5, when will that format be changed?

I don't want another country music station either (I can't stand it at all personally), but it is something that could work for 103.5, particularly given that they cover rural areas pretty well AND get well into Louisville. Active rock seems to be a dead format for the time being, but I think it'll bounce back eventually.

As for 100.5, it has gotten to a point where I check them every single morning to see if they've changed yet. That's pretty sad. It is inevitably going to happen, just a question of when. Memorial Day weekend, Independence Day weekend, or Labor Day weekend? God help us if it doesn't happen one of those. They're looking for a new programming director for 98.9/100.5 right now anyway (since Jonathan Shuford is heading to Nashville), so maybe once they figure out exactly what they're going to do there. I think the whole insistence of having one PD handle two stations is why 100.5 is in the mess it is in anyway, no matter who goes into that "combined" job is obviously going to put their attention on a station that actually works (98.9) instead of one that is a total mess (100.5).

How bout the classic hits format that was on 105.1 before they flipped to old school hip hop? I think it would have worked on 105.1 if they gave it more time, but on an even better signal like 100.5 I think it would do well.

With the addition of Vicki Rogers on 100.5, I really don't see them changing formats.

It seems that even adding Vicki isn't helping ratings, I think u could still switch to classic hits and keep her as the main dj, she would make more sense with that format anyway, similar to when she was on 106.9.

I don't know. It's radio, the world where people get hired on Monday and are fired by Wednesday. Just ask Rocky Knight about his four months on WLRS 105.1 in 2008 (that all seems to be a fuzzy memory these days!). It doesn't matter who is on there, if it isn't working, they've got to change the format.

Besides, that isn't to say that they can't flip 100.5 to a format that would work better with Vicki Rogers. Honestly, I feel like she doesn't completely fit in on there right now, but if they were to go to something else (I'm still rooting for a return of Louie to 100.5 myself), she might actually fit in a little better.
