620 vs 92.3

Picking up on the another thread, here's the official explanation and schedule. No mention of 860 at all. Those who have been in this market long enough will remember that Emmis bought the then KVVA to be the home of the Diamondbacks. Jerry Colangelo held a lot of power over the station and rejected the plan. Now, what happens if there is a major news story during one of these games?

Also interesting to note: on weekdays, the later game generally goes to 92.3, probably to limit impact on Ted & Heidi.

Overlapping Suns, Diamondbacks games to Air Uninterrupted on KTAR’s AM, FM Frequencies DURING BUSIEST TIME IN SPORTS

PHOENIX – With the Phoenix Suns headed toward the NBA playoffs, and the 2007 lineup of the Arizona Diamondbacks ready to debut, the demand for play-by-play broadcasts of Arizona’s hometown teams is at an all-time high among sports fans of all ages and backgrounds. In response, KTAR has announced broadcast plans for overlapping game times to ensure uninterrupted coverage of the Valley’s professional sports teams. See the table below to learn when the Suns and Diamondbacks broadcasts will simultaneously air on KTAR’s two frequencies.

“As the longtime radio home for both the Diamondbacks and the Suns, KTAR is excited about its capability to offer sports coverage on two frequencies,” said KTAR Director of News and Sports Russ Hill. “This way, sports fans won’t miss a single minute of the play-by-play broadcasts of the Suns’ run to the playoffs, and the exciting start to the Diamondbacks season.”

Actually is was prior ownership that purchased KVVA in anticipation of sports constipation on 6~twenty. The first couple of years KMVP made a major commitment to local programming on 8~sixty before realizing syndicated shows would get the same ratings or more for a whole lot less $$$$.

Somehow TMISU thought 6~twenty had the same coverage problem as their DC station and decided to turn it into a sports parking lot. Fact is 6~twenty is the best AM signal day and night in the Valley. The Nurse and I continue to think TMISU would have been dollars and ratings ahead by keeping 6~twenty in simulcast with 92~three, where Hip Hop used to live, and breaking away for play by play as needed. But they listened to someone else and wound up with Pat McBland on FM where he sounds as old as their frequency!

I agree. I used to pick up 620 in Sedona (don't listen to it now), but you are lucky if you can pick up 92.3 at Sunset Point. By then, I can get almost any Phoenix AM station.

I'm getting paranoid, I think Bonneville is after me.

I got a call from a sales rep trying to get me to advertise. Mind you, we have zero need to advertise or to utilize any radio station in any way. So, I backed her off about her sales attempt, and then she tried another avenue about trying to use our company (we are a non profit agency) for a family member, but that was just a ruse to make a second push at getting us to advertise.

I deal with sales people calling me daily and I usually dispatch them after about 2 sentences, but this one was devious.

And annoying.

I was not happy with the sales call.

I usally can shoot a salesman down in a few words.

This woman started with the sales call, got knocked down and then inquired about how to utilize our services, I dropped my guard, and BAM! She was right back in with the sales pitch.

I guess its "Always Be Selling"

This week's winner gets steak knives.

The loser gets fired.

What does a Bonneville Rep calling you have to do with this post? Great you can shoot down a sales rep, you must be good.

Hmmm.. devious and annoying? ??? Sounds like a good salesperson to me. ;D

Seriously, though, have you ever dealt with a salesperson who wasn't either devious or annoying?
