Not unless you're the one who's personally going to be leasing the time from Sporting News.

Secondly, the russian programming hasn't moved to 87.7 so any further discussion would be for naught right now.

Actually, you are wrong, they are making the move 100%. http://www.radiovse.com If you look at the top it says 87.7fm
Edited by ZelenRecords on 06/23/05 02:09 PM.

Soooo you are taking info from a WEB SITE and believing it? Also, you are aware that 87.7 is not in the FM band?

My money is with Lance.

No, I know that it is the audio signal from the LP. I have a Russian friend in NY (I am in Chicago) he said, when you tune to 87.7 u get that Russian show. The same one that is 620am.

There is no LPTV station on Channel 6 in New York, which would be the only legal chance of having a signal on 87.75 that most FM radios could get. If there is any signal whatsoever on 87.7, it is an unlicensed station.

If this company is indeed banking on moving their Russian programming to an illegal, out-of-band frequency, all the more power to them... Uncle Charlie is quite busy in NYC, but he'll eventually show up with a Briefcase Full of Blues, which will include some NAL paperwork.

Where have you been? WNYZ-LP Channel 6 in New York has been licensed and on the air for at least a month now.

Well I've been trusting that the FCC would have their records straight, which now that you've mentioned it, they do not. WNYZ is listed as a "UHF TRANSLATOR LOW POWER." Last I checked, Channel 6 was Low-Band VHF.

So, there is the answer, and I stand corrected. 87.75 FM is indeed viable as a destination for programming on 640. There was a station in Anchorage, Alaska doing the same thing -- KZND 87.7 "The End." I'm not sure what the fate of that station was; they battled with the FCC for a while.

A BETTER IDEA: 94.7, 93.9, OR 99.5

Actually a group of wealthy former CBS FM listeners should buy 94.7 WFME and put CBS FM's old format there. They should hire the likes of Max Kinkle, Dan Ingram, Harry Harrison (if avialable), Bill Brown (if available), Don K Reed, Bob Shannon (make him program director), Holly levis, Dan Daniel, Mike Fitzgerald, Dan Taylor, marc Sommers, Gary Clark, Cousin Brucie (if available), and ot5hers,,,have Hall of Fmaes...80's Monday, Tuesday Trivia, 70's Wednesday, Thursday Night 60's, Friday Night 50's, Sock Hop 7-11 Saturday Nights, Jukebox Saturday Night 11 PM-4 AM, Top 20 Oldies COuntdowns (80's 8-10 PM Monday-1965-79 Saturdays 5-7 PM,1955-64 Sundays 5-7 PM) Music For Lovers Only Sunday into Monday Mid-2 AM. Also play per hour by day: 1-3 50's, 1-3 pre 64 60's (total 4), 6 from 64-69, 3-4 70's, 2-3 80's, plus one 90's per shift. At night between 11 PM and 6 AM play that same rotation with a 90's every hour, a recurrent every hour, and a current per hour.

I think "94-7 Gold" sounds nice.

I'd love to see that happen (and for something useful to go on 94.7) but wow that would be quite an investment. At least $100 million to buy the frequency, millions of dollars a year in salaries (all those personalities you mentioned don't come cheap), plus promotions, webcasting, etc. And since oldies is a "hard sell" to advertisers, it would probably take many, many years to recoup the investment, if at all.

On the other hand, XM and Sirus and Internet radio sound nice........
