630 WPRO and 99.7 WEAN

I would love to know who listens to or can receive 630 WPRO in Providence, RI outside the southern New England area anytime between 6am and 9pm during the week. I know WPRO-AM reaches the southern Maine coast with a decent signal, but also curious how far up the Maine coast. WPRO is my favorite local AM station, and the weekday local talk shows are always entertaining to listen to with what goes on in our little state. The station is simulcast on 99.7 WEAN-FM which transmits from Exeter, RI. Has anyone received WEAN-FM in tropo or E-skip? Can WEAN-FM be heard in eastern Long Island, NY under normal conditions?

I never did heard WPRO 630 in Maine during the morning hours and I haven't been to ME in the last 8 years or so, however, I once heard the station in VA during nighttime, mixed with WMAL.

On the Maine-New Hampshire border, I was able to hear WPRO most days in the early morning, a few hours plus or minus sunrise. Same for sunset. But then about 10 years ago, CHLT 630 Sherbrooke, Quebec, increased its power or changed its pattern because WPRO was much harder to get.

Well, last year CHLT became one of many Canadian AM stations to switch to FM. So once again, WPRO is easy to hear around sunrise and sunset 100 miles north of Boston on the NH-Maine border, with no French language underneath.

And yes, WPRO is also quite audible along the Maine Coast below Portland, perhaps all day.

WPRO/630 does quite well in Southern New Hampshire at night. In the East Wakefield, NH and the West Newfield, Maine border area it was "a regular" at night. But I noticed that up in the Lake Placid, NY area, surprisingly WMAL/630 from Washington, DC does much better than WPRO. Never got CHLT/630 up in LP, BUT I was able to get their sister TV station, CHLT-TV (Channel 7) from Sherbrooke, QC. rather well up in Lake Placid. It's about 100 miles between LP and Sherbrooke.

Hey, I bet WPRO could be heard in the daytime from the Jersey shore down to the NC outer banks and possibly farther if it weren't for the station in Savannah.

I attempted to hear WPRO during the day when I was at Daytona Beach as it was on my potential catch list but I didn't take into consideration how strong WBMQ would be.

There was a little something barely audible from another station in the background but there was no telling what that could have been.

When I DXed from the Outer Banks in August, 630 was occupied by WMFD & WMAL during the daytime, and WBMQ during the night. No sign of Providence when I was there.

I didn't take into account the much closer WMFD and especially the 10 kw WMAL.

Theoretically, WPRO should have been heard at least a little had the frequency not been occupied by the other stations.

You're right now that I think of it. Thanks.

Still not a bad catch at .8 kw from 395 miles daytime.

Maybe you mentioned in the past but from where you are, what Florida stations can you get in the daytime, especially any Miami stations?

A whole bunch of Florida stations (probably at least two dozen or more). I never get WMFD due to the very close WBMQ, which booms in daytime. Less than five miles from the ocean, I get almost every Jacksonville station, save 1280 and 1400. 1460 comes in on a good radio, even with a local 1450. 690 is the strongest, coming in stronger than a couple semi-local stations. That can be heard well inland. 600 is the 2nd strongest. 1420 comes in strong from St. Augustine.

I also get 540, 580, and 740 from Orlando, with 580 mixing with the Augusta station there, and 540 also comes in well, even several miles inland. I hear Spanish 1030 daytime, and several others can be heard, too. Most of the Daytona stations come in decently daytime, especially 1150 and 1550 from Palm Coast.

During these last few weeks, I've consistently been getting a weak 820 from Tampa daytime. With our local 730 off, 720 from Hernando comes in.

3kw 760 from West Palm comes in every day here consistently at nearly 400 miles, and WIOD and WWFE come in too. WIOD especially comes in by the beach. WWFE mixes in, and today at 1:30, I heard WINZ next to my semi-local 950. Others would come in with a better radio. There's two Cubans on 630, but I believe it was Wilmington.
