630 WPRO needs new Music Beds

Tell that to 1010 WINS in New York and KYW 1060 in Philadelphia, where they have been using the same "ticker tape" sound effect for decades. Also, WINS has been using the same traffic sounder for many years (However, they altered it somewhat a couple of years ago to a more upbeat soudner. It's still similar to the one WBZ uses). If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Changing something just for the sake of changing it is stupid, in my opinion.

The WINS ticker sound is a unique feature which I actually like. It's a familar sound which I actually find comforting. I listen to the station all the time and that sound has never got on my nerves. Not even once. However WPRO's traffic sounder is obnoxious sounding and it irritates me now. After years of hearing it I would like for them to change it.

Certain music packages can stand the test of time. WINS is one of them. However other packages just get sickening over time. In my opinion WPRO's is one of them. I'm sure there are a lot more cues they haven't used on those packages. Start adding some different ones to the mix. The package is already paid for. It wouldn't even cost them any more money. Just start using those unused beds that are currently sitting in a closet.

Even the most successful programs frequently update their music. There is no harm in freshening things up every once in a while.

skynet...

If you think we could help WPRO out with some new jingles...I've got an extra kazoo in the drawer!

We could multi-track a few new music beds and make AM630 really sound like something! :p

I'm all for it. get in touch. We'll produce somethig for them. Unfortunately the station will just stick them in a drawer. So I guess we'll just post them here where people will hear them. Let's do it! :)

How about the station ID and slogan?

They have this hourly ID that sounds like a golf swing without hitting the ball. I have no idea why they are using this, but it sounds stupid. I like 1030 WBZ's hourly ID's. Also, where did they come with the slogan "Rhode Island's station of record"?

I think Ron St. Pierre likes to feel as if he's on the Golf Course. I heard that the station will also be changing their slogan to "THE STATION WITH BALLS". He must be hung up on the golf thing. LOL

Skynet 74...

It's just a guess, but maybe Ron St. Pierre has a "promotional consideration deal on the side" with the TITLE ONE GOLF BALL company? :p

Since radio is still "a theatre of the mind"---and listeners can't watch the balls---Ron's 7-iron automatically comes out of the bag every hour on the hour! ;D
