64-bit plugins

Hi Production People,

I have been running Sony Vegas Pro 10, 32-bit on my Windows 7 64-bit machine since October. My laptop only supports the 32-bit version and I wanted to avoid any compatability issues. Today I decided to install the 64-bit version to see if it would aleviate some issues I've been having with the Elastique timestretch plugin (audio dissappearing when a timestretched event is moved). Well, that didn't have any effect on that problem, but exposed an entirely different one, namely that a lot of my old plugins didn't show up in the plugin manager.

So, I guess if I'm going to make the leap to 64-bit, I am going to need some new plugins. As usual, my budget is low to nothing. Also, if there are plugins that would be compatable with both the 32 and 64 bit versions of Vegas, that would be ideal. Most of my plugins date back to my XP days so its not surprising that they would need to be replaced, but I will miss them and am not really looking forward to learning a bunch of new plugins and replicating all of my old settings (I know, stop whining!)

What plugins would you all recommend? I have lost my favorite filter (Blueline) with a bunch of oft used settings. That's probably my most urgent need. Freewarre, shareware, bundles... I'm interested in them all. I was so comfortable with what I had that I have not kept up on what's hot in plugins. Also, Direct X vs VST? Would really appreciate the input from the room here. Thanks in advance!

Rob

Found this article on the Waves website dated Jan. 2010

"However, performance shows no improvement, and we haven't yet found any significant benefit to using our processors in a 64-bit operating system." Hmmm, maybe there's no performance improvement with your product, but my life would be whole lot easier if they would "play nice" with all the other programs that do benefit from 64-bit os.

Easiest solution: just get a 32-bit upgrade version of Win7 and do an "in-place upgrade" then go back to using your old plugins. In a few years the rest of the world will catch up to 64-bit.

Most of these run absolutely fine on 64 bit machines, there's just no benefit.

Chuck is right. A lot of times IF the host program is running 32 bit..the plug ins will follow. We have found that most stuff still works fine running 64 bit. Sounds like that elastique plug has issues anyway.

I found that Source Connect will NOT interface with a 64 bit computer. They are supposed to release an update mid-year. All of the wave arts stuff works..and they offer 64 bit versions also.

Not really sure that 64 bit is worth the trouble..no real noticeable quality or speed enhancements.

@Jeff...I emailed Source Connect a few months ago about Win 7 64bit compatability. I was told to expect a release July-August. Looking forward to it!

Only issue I have with 64bit machine is that when doing some things in AA 1.5 it will shut down. Usually when checking out presets with Izotope Nectar or Ozone.
