640/1230/107.5 Terre Haute

Does anyone happen to know the latest on the status of these former Contemporary Media stations?

It's really too bad that Terre Haute's blow torch signal on 107.5 has been left dark for so long. I used to be able to pick up the station quite often in Lafayette back in the day. Great format back then, too. I'm really surprised that another commercial radio station never took advantage of the modern rock void and placed it on one of their signals.

I noticed applications for 107.5 have been widdled down to 2 companies, Word Power, Inc. and Missouri Indiana Broadcasting. Anyone have any info on Missouri Indiana Broadcasting? Hopefully it's a company that can bring something new to the table in Terre Haute if they happen to get the signal.

107.5 was a kick-butt signal. I also heard them often in Lafayette and further north.

The last thing I heard (about a year ago) was that ISU and IU were fighting for ownership of the 107.5 frequency. ISU administration wants a station with NPR/Classical Music. IU wants to simulcast in the Terre Haute area.

What exactly would be the difference? Ownership? Sounds like the format would be the same, since WFIU is also NPR/Classical.

That station used to regularly trounce WGCI-FM south of I-80 during the summer. A friend of mine that went to U of I listened to them from his fifth floor dorm in Urbana all the time. Even with all the translators and other adjacent-channel stations that have gone live since then, it's still a great frequency to grab.

107.5 will eventually be auctioned, along with all the other allocations that used to belong to Rice in MO. According to the FCC database, Missouri Indiana broadcasting is Ken Keunzie, of Lake of the Ozarks, MO who I understand is a very good friend of Mike Rice. They have also applied for some of the former Contemporary stations in Missouri.

I've also heard that Crossroads is interested in aquiring the frequencies, but I have no idea if the info is reliable or just rumor.
______________

I do know that Crossroads has made quite a few talent changes lately in the T.H. market.
______________
