640 and 1070 West Coast Clear Channels make it to the Midwest

Congratulations. In the Chicago area KFI is impossible due to WMFN and I haven't heard KNX in years. As we proceed into October the chances of hearing KNX increase early in the morning. I'll have to try the Edinburgh SDR.

CFAC is easier than CKWX, but they're both do-able from time to time, at least here in the Chicago area. I actually heard CFAC earlier this week. CKWX may take a while, but the best time to snag it, IME, is before sunrise during winter months.
Yes I have heard CFAC a couple of times. I think I heard CKWX once.
WMFN is the big problem in the Chicago area in trying to capture KFI. It used to be pretty easy to hear KFI, but WMFN killed those

Same here in the Chicago area, the best chance for me to get KNX is just prior to sunrise.
The approaching sunrise blocks out the stations to the east and then you can aim west and have a better shot at it.
Finally received here in SE Michigan! Heard KNX at 6:55am EDT with a weather/traffic report delivered by a female announcer. Their signal faded up over the mess for about 10 seconds, just long enough for me to positively ID them by comparing to a southern California SDR.
This was a rare opportunity, made possible thanks to storms knocking out the power to local wideband slop-generator WCARs transmitter site Tuesday evening (And still wasn't back up as of this morning). Would've been much easier if WCSZ "La Jefa" in South Carolina would actually power down at night.
I continued listening, however CHOK must have switched to their day pattern at 7:03am, as they went from barely present to dominating the frequency.

Good job. CHOK usually does become a problem when trying to catch KNX in the midwest.

Congratulations on a very nice catch! And proving that it still can be done.
You did better than I did on 1070 this morning. I checked in briefly a couple of times before sunrise and it was pretty much the usual. CHOK fighting it out with WTSO. But I remain a man on a mission. I WILL snag KNX again before the upcoming DX season ends.
I predict you'll get it. We're heading into the right time of year to catch KNX in the morning.
Thanks! I always figured KFI would be the easier of the two here. To be fair, this was an extremely brief catch, just enough to positively ID, and very weak. I hear stories of the "Good old days" 40-50 years ago when KFI and KNX were regulars in the Midwest. Hard to imagine.
