640 is sounding like WHAT these day's

640 is sounding like WHAT these day’s. I was driving around Gladwyne the other day and Disney’s 640/WWJZ was coming in so weak I thought I had 1340/WHAT on. I’ve never heard so much background noise and fade on 640 daytime. It was so bad I thought maybe I had on an I-hash side band. No, not really, but it was bad. Apparently, it sounded like they must have had their 1kW N-DA-4 on at 4pm in the afternoon. Either their 50kW is down or their autobot power down is not set for daylight savings time. I know you’re asking yourself, what am I doing Dxing AM in this day and age? Well it’s just one of those silly immature things I never really got over. Y’know, like premature ejaculation. But that’s another story. Wow, AM it’s just so sad. No one was satisfied letting AM just die a natural death. They had to kill it with HD I-Bash 5K analog dynamic range.

Sounds like 640 is having signal problems,. 50 kW at that frequency should be a monster during the day. Even the 950 watt night signal should be well heard. This may be something for the ABC engineers to check into...

You can usually hear at least some trace of WWJZ during the day around Baltimore.

Sad that a station with a signal like that can't crack a 0.1 with the people meter. That station really has no listeners.

How are "teens" and "tweens" documented in radio ratings? I would suspect they'd be hard to count.

The PPM starts at age 6. With WWJZ, the kids aren't listening and the parents aren't listening to it with the kids in the car.

Something is wrong when a 3kw CHR from Atlantic City and B101's audio stream have more listeners than a 50kw AM station at 640 kHz in a market of 4+ million people.

Audio quality of both of those stations far exceeds the audio quality on 640 AM, or any AM station. People aren't listening to Radio Disney because it's on AM. Not because "only old people listen to AM," but because AM sounds like hell.

Unless HD takes off in a big way, I just don't think music, in any format, can survive on AM.

Maybe they were just doing some work on the station, the night facilities do have to be checked during the day hours from time to time. And I still believe AM can be made to sound decent, HD sure isn't helping it in any way though. There are a few pretty awful sounding FM stations around these days too
