640 WJNA

I just went to 640-WJNA's official web site at http://www.wjna.com, and to my shock I noticed that two of my all-time favourite game show hosts in television history actually host syndicated shows on the station every weekday !

Peter Marshall - the ringmaster of "The Hollywood Squares" (the original version that ran from the late-1960s through the early-1980s) hosts from 10 AM to 12 PM.

Wink Martindale - the host of the other longtime XXX-OOO game show on TV - "Tic Tac Dough" - hosts "Wink And A Smile" from 12 PM to 3 PM.

Following Peter & Wink it's ... Greg Budell !

Is this information still accurate ? It looks like WJNA hasn't updated their web site in places since 2003 !

Yes, after trying variations of locally origonated oldies/real real oldies/not-so-oldies/mixed bag of oldies formats, each with progressively worse results, they've recently taken up the MUSIC OF YOUR LIFE format, with Wink, Peter and other assorted hours off the bird. Mornings are local and Budell voice tracks from where-ever he is...I'm sure 954 will provide a link. This station had a good thing going three or four years ago when it was a 40's-50's- and real early 60's station, centered around Mike Reinieri and Chuck Zink. Now that they are gone, they're having a heck of a time fining a niche. However, this move is sort of a return to its "roots" and probably the best move they could make.

All of which was mentioned in August Radio News, under WJNA Fiddling With Format Again?

http://radiopages.net/radio/2006august.html

A new EXTRA edition went up this morning:

http://radiopages.net/radio/2006augustextra.html

Do I have to post the entire contents here? :'(

BTW, Major... The music link you asked for is on the new main page:

http://radiopages.net/radio/index.html

WJNA's and WFTL's web sites were both out of date or missing for a long time, but they're more or less OK now. Except that, last I looked, their news page was still screwed up and Alan Diskin (whom they dumped last winter) was still listed.

Their best show is on after midnight, however -- "East Of Midnight" with Paul Dunn. (Sorry, Jon!)

I must've missed that article. I don't know how I did. I mean it's only buried deep within Section 4 of that long edition !

It's in a weird place on that page. It almost totally eclipses the headline box that you have in that same exact location. You might want to fix that when you get a chance.

I see that it's f***ed up in that #$%@#$ Internet Explorer.

It's displayed properly in Netscape.

I gotta figure out what Bill Gates' buggy baby doesn't like.

Thanks.

FIXED (and updated with link to new file)

Has WJNA cut back on its power? I seem to recall hearing 640 fairly well in Naples while on business there.

I can hear 610 and 940 fairly well in that area, but 640 faintly comes in even half way driving to Miami.

My memory may be falling, however, since I favor the music from the demo advertiser bozos hate- 55+. And I don't buy anything. WHich explains why I bought a house a couple of weeks ago.

They actually have a CP (construction permit) that was approved by the FCC which would actually increase the signal tremendously over the Naples area BOTH day and night. When I was in Sunny Isles a couple weeks ago their signal was audible but there clearly was some fading in the signal. Since this was the first time I have ever listened I'm not sure which pattern they were using at the time. I definitely liked what I heard and made it a point to check them out when I got back home to NJ. Too bad they don't stream, I mean the "non Music of Your Life" programming! Great station but as has been said going from the MOYL Programming to the 7p to 12a Oldies format isn't entirely focussed. Overall I was pleased with what I heard and I was even more impressed by the simulcast of WFTL with the approaching of TS Ernesto. Good for them!

:)

I went to the FCC Query on AM's and looked up WJNA. Currently they run 7.5kw Day and .46kw Night. They have a CP in the works that will make them 25kw both Day and Night.

That will be good news. They're not the greatest sounding station but hearing older songs, soft AC, and even that night time oldies show on one station is great.

640 is not audible in Naples, and I am here now. Sounds like some Mexican station waving in.

940 and 610 come in decently, not great though. 850 WFTL doesn't come in at all, last I checked.
