64th Annual Nashville Gas Christmas Parade

Want to give a big thanks and shout out to Woody & Jim. I come home today, and turn on the television to Channel 3, where they are showing the footage from the parade this past Friday night.

Just in time to hear them talk about The Fish, and how cool it is that they are playing Christmas music all season. A couple of other entrants go by, then the camera pans to the announcers so they can say hello and wave at the camera.

Then the camera returns to show the WBUZ/WVNS entry. Without saying a word about it, they immediately proceed to the next following entry.

Not a few minutes later, they spend two minutes talking about all of their sister Clear Channel stations and their entries.

Amused, I turned off my television. Thanks, Woody & Jim. We appreciate the friendly rivalry between professional broadcasters. We didn't want you saying our names, anyway. Might have given us a bad rap.

Hey Bill,

Tell old man Bud to pay his dues, then he might get mentioned at events like that. Oh by the way, tell him and Beth that they have now really screwed up 102.5. Remember Q-108 is out for blood. Saga personnel at that Clarksville cluster treat people like crap in public, and what burns me up, they don't give a damn. It happen to me and another person in this business (I'll keep his name out of this) at Northwest High in Clarksville when we were trying to cover a Football Game there!

Rocko,

While that is deplorable if true, I have no knowledge one way or the other, so I'll take your word for it. My point, however, isn't about paying dues. It is about watching representatives from the largest radio conglomerate in the world performing in what is arguably a public service capacity acting in such a petty manner, and that is profoundly amusing to me.

Now, perhaps I am mistaken. Perhaps whomever edited the film mistakenly left out the audio, or a segment of the footage ended up on the cutting room floor. Perhaps it was a clerical oversight, and the entry wasn't listed on their notes. Perhaps they merely got so wrapped up in spreading the Holiday cheer during their broadcast they mistakenly skipped us.

However, my experience in this town in the past several years leaves me with the sneaking suspicion that none of those is the case. I will, however, freely make apologies and eat my humble pie if one of those proves to be the case. I wonder of Woody or Jim will post to refute my intuition. The invitation lies open.

WBUZ, WVNS, and WRVW go for three slightly different audiences. P1s very rarely cross match among them. There is room in this town for all three formats. And there is plenty of room for friendly rivalry without being snide. At the end of the day, we could all be jobless and have to work together somewhere else without warning. This business is too inbred and unpredictable to be like that. Why make such an action? Can't we all just get a beer and complain about corporate foolishness together?

Yeah, I watched the parade this evening looking for my own station's vehicle to pass. They announced every single other radio station and said, 'and there's our friends at ___ " for all others. The Buzz and V drove by and they didn't say a word about them. It was pretty obvious.

let me get this straight: you're upset because WBUZ/WVNS were slighted
on the cable 3 coverage of the christmas parade?
cable 3?

less people watching than posting on this board!

plus didn't you mom always tell you "if you can't say something good..."

maybe Bud will whine on-air about it, since CC is involved

Naaah, Romer. Less upset than amused. I just thought it was a petty little thing to do. And such a silly way to do it. On-air barbs in our own broadcast forums are one thing. But using a neutral third party like the Government Access channel is cheap and quite tasteless.

As far as a "whine" on the air..... We will see if the tactic worked, and if the audience loyal to B&T for seven years tries a new morning show. Once we clock out as the day ends, we all gotta make sure we are doing what we can to pay rent, don't we? Besides, what's wrong with a litte truth in advertising?
