65.9... Congratulations WNOX?

65.9 is the total number of share points listed in the latest Knoxville survey. Nineteen stations didn't pay for listing, including WNOX. Giving the other eighteen stations a generous 1.0 each average, that leaves 16.1 for Pirkle & Co. Congratulations on the tie for #1 in the Knoxville market.

Yeah. I admit to being full of it and a liar. But Arbitron ain't what it used to be.

Also, cool showing for The Engelbrecht family this time around. Good for them.

Growth for South Central and a really nice birthday surprise for Ronnie Meredith this time. 4.8? They're going to need a fax machine if I'm reading things right.

The WNOX thing wouldn't be without precedent. When WSEV FM changed to U-102 in the early 80's it went from below the line to double digits in one book. The main difference this time is that the survey company is going to bury the numbers of the stations that don't cough up the dough.

Interesting thing... An advertiser can probably buy the top two South Central stations and get more audience than WIVK for less money.

That's a 19 share for less than the cost of a 16 share.

Knoxville Winter 2010 to Winter 2011:

Citadel 33.4 to 24.9 (8 points went out the door with Ed and 100.3)
South Central 18.1 to 21.8
Journal 17.5 to 18.7

Whoa... maybe we should spice up the rumor mill. Pirkle is taking 100.3 to the latest retro fad -- all-disco "Bee Gee 100.3"!

It would certainly be less expensive to run than news/talk. Would he have to buy turntables to play 30 year old tunes? And bring back Kerry Lambert to program it? I believe some of us old guys still have leisure suits in a closet somewhere. Too bad Michaels isn't in business right now. Great place to show chest hair and gold neck chains. There's nothing in the world like the smell of cheap cologne and desperation.

Got Mrs. Cowboy one of those old style mood rings to help give me warning when she's angry. It's green when she's calm and it leaves a huge red mark on my forehead when she's hacked off.

And thanks for not leaving me hanging Elkhosen!

Johnny Pirkle, white Saturday Night Fever suit, a cheesy gold medallion hanging from his neck. Talk about a dramatic billboard...

So they're going sports talk?

This board needs a 'like' button. Well played, sir.

Sorry - 100.3's been there, done that - in 1978 - didn't work out

One of my favorites: In honor of The World's Fair, they're changing their call letters to WXPO.

How about Johnny's changing the format to All Stevie Ray Vaughn? He's going to pay Phil Williams a one-time fee to say pretty much the same thing several hundred different ways: "Yeah baby!", "Play it Stevie", etc. Johnny's old cart system automation will drop these in between every other song.

100.3 WSRV... All Stevie Ray, all cool

Add in Stevie Nicks weekends and he'd have "Stevie Ray Weekdays, Stevie Nicks Weekends -- 100.3 WSRV -- Your Leather & Lace station!"

I wonder how long Johnny will run News/Talk at the bottom of the ratings?. Eventually, he'll park a music format on 100.3's mighty 100 KW. In retrospect, he should have done an automated something while he was getting 100.3 rebuilt post Citadel LMA.

That's a great question. It's no secret that he made more money off of the country format than any other format or lean he's tried. But I don't think they'll change formats anytime soon. But if they did country would be the best choice.

If only they had an owner, GM, and air staff that had ever had any success with country music.
