65 NEXSTAR STATIONS UP FOR SALE

Oh goodie I hope our CBS station WTAJ is up for sale. That is the only station that is anti-subchannel. We got MeTV and THIS and I would love Antenna TV as well.......... ;)

With McGraw-Hill, Freedom, and Young Broadcasting trying to sell TV stations and now Nexstar it makes me wonder the value of TV stations in today's economic climate

That could actually be bad news for Upstate New Yorkers. Nexstar owns or has LMA's with stations in Rochester & Utica. WROC -8 in Rochester has improved drastically in the last few years of their air product. WUHF's product has improved to since they took it over from Sinclair. WROC is no long the lowly 3rd place station in the market. They have earned & deserve respect. WUTR-20 & WFXV -33 in Utica are about to relaunch their news depts. after about a 10 year absence. I know the market is really looking forward to it. I hope the old cut costs to show larger profit rule doesn't kick in.

KDKA in Pittsburgh does not have any subchannels either. Nor does their redheaded stepchild CW 19.
Maybe it's a CBS thing?

Nexstar only owns 50 stations. Some of the stations are under the Mission Broadcasting name, because they otherwise couldn't have a duopoly in some markets without having the shell company (like what Granite Broadcasting does with WISE-TV & WPTA in Fort Wayne, IN (Malara Broadcast Group is a shell company of Granite Braodcasting, & Malara owns WPTA). 3 of the stations are also low power stations, & don't count toward their cap in the number of TV stations they can own in those markets. I don't know what will happen with the LMA's that Nexstar has with the other 15 stations. With most of Nexstar's stations in markets under #50, it's not expected that the networks themselves will show interest in any of these stations. It would have to be a company that specializes in running small market stations.

Does anyone have a list of which stations are for sale (and the asking price.) I'm really curious, and somewhat surprised about this.

The asking price would probably be in the area of $750 million to $1 billion for the lot. Nexstar hired an advisor for a sale in 2007, but canceled plans when the 2008 economic crisis hit.

Mission Broadcasting is merely a way for Nexstar to own those stations without owning them. Illegal? Probably. Nexstar sold a station to Mission once so it could buy another station. (I wonder what the purchase price was?)

Wasn't this the WBRE/WYOU sell in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, PA?

As someone in a market where Nexstar just edged their way in by buying WFRV in Green Bay from Liberty Media, this is welcome news, especially since they've already terminated 1/3 of the staff, the longtime GM retired before the sale went through as he wanted nothing to do with Nexstar, and their fine website which I visited everyday was downgraded to something more appropriate for the Windows 98 era. It also suggests shareholder pressure to sell if the current management is annoying them from fumbling away WFFT and WTVW's Fox affiliations due to the Fox RTC issue.

I know little about their stations, but from what you guys are posting on here,
it sounds like they really don't have any idea what they are doing or how to
run a successful station(s). That's a good way to run a company into the ground.

One would think that McGraw Hill wouldn't have any problem at all in selling KMGH 7 if MIC-KEY was interested.....

Cheers :D

And wasn't KTVX 4 (ABC) in Salt Lake City, UT the station they bought? (Or did that one come over as part of the Chump Channel TV selloff?)

Cheers :D

KTVX isn't owned by Nexstar. Never has been.

ABC/Disney isn't buying stations, and hasn't been buying stations in years. It's selling them.

One group buying all the stations? I don't think that will happen. I'd file a public comment on the ownership of stations through Nexstar puppets to try and get the FCC's attention.

I don't think anyone will buy the entire portfolio either. But someone asked, so I quoted a price. :) Few companies are in buy mode, so if Nexstar is serious about selling, they're going to be disappointed.
