66 WFAN vs 1050 ESPN

So...now that WFAN has lost Imus and Mike & Dog, let's rank the 2 sports talk stations here in the Big City.

Has 1050 surpassed WFAN ?

1.) AM Drive... Mike and Mike or Boomer and Carton ?
2.) MID-Days... Evan and Joe or Kellerman and Kelly ?
3.) PM Drive... Solo Francessa or Kaye and La Greca/Salvia ?
4.) Evenings... Tierney or Somers ?

Each has the play-by-play split...and YES I know Tirico and Van Pelt suck from 1-3pm..

I don't think 1050 will ever surpass WFAN in ratings...BUT... I do believe they can get closer to WFAN's ratings of 2.3-2.6

No way 1050 should be below a 1.0... they should be around 1.7- 2.0

Thoughts ??

One reason why WEPN 1050 AM isn't doing well in the ratings is because WFAN is a well established station with established personalities with little turnover since July 1987 the time of there birth.

There just may not be a large audience out there to support two sports stations in one market.

Thanks,
Kevin L. Sealy

Actually, EVERY single daypart has changed since it's birth. And how does that stop WEPN from doing well?
Fresh can still do well despite WLTW's stability and long-term dominance.

One partial factor may be the disparity in signals...660's signal is far better than 1050's, which has problems in many parts of the NYC area which count towards the NYC book (much of Long Island, many parts of New Jersey).

WFAN and WHN did relatively well at that frequency. Its about marketing, marketing, marketing......who thinks of WEPN when they think
of sports radio in NY? Long term association with Mets or Yankees could help....

Signal strength is no longer an excuse...

You can get 1050 ESPN on 107.1 WLIR in the Hamptons... and also on 1040 WNJE out of Flemington, which not only covers Jersey...but well into PA

No, it's still an issue. WLIR does not cover Central or Western Suffolk county or Eastern Nassau, as it gets eaten up by 107.1 The Peak and 107.1 The Breeze, depending on where you are. Their tower is too far east to really put a better signal into those areas, which have lots of trouble receiving WEPN at night. Similar with the situation in NJ: there are still many areas that don't get a clear signal of 1050 or 1040.

We are talking about New York City aren't we?
