670 AM the Q flips to talk

I was passing by 670am and they are now talk. Their slogan is "670 am Nevada's #1 news talk radio station" I didn't catch the morning guys name but I think he is local. The talk line up is: Morning Show 5-9 ,Michael Smerconish 9-noon, Lou Dobbs Noon-3, Lars Larson 3-6, Clark Howard 6-7, Dr Joy Browne 7-10, and a Lifestyle Talker from 10-5am. Las Vegas now has 5 AM talkers. Does anyone think that we needed another AM talker?

I don't think we necessarily needed another talker....but the only thing that will work on AM in this market is talk or sports. They will generate more revenue from this format than they did while playing music.

To seperate themselves from the other talk stations they should add more local hosts outside AM drive. Good local talk is better than third or fourth tier syndication.

The morning show apparently is hosted by Steve Wark, a longtime Republican Party activist. So much for "good local talk."

I have seen Wark many times on Ralstons's t.v. show. He is pretty sharp on the issues. Just beacause he is a consevative does not mean it will not be good local radio. It depends who his guests are. If its just people that agree with him then it might not be so good.

Wow, can't say I'm surprised.

What was the whole "experiment," anyway? To see if you make it in the ratings as a little AM music station that plays a lot of obscure stuff, has one damn-good (but only one) on-air personality, with little to no community involvement, interaction (in-person or online)?

Sorry. I'm still a big fan of Bill Gardner. And one crazy Phoenician... ;D

I like how right away they are the #1 talk station in the whole state. LOL TIMES 100 !!!!

The daytime signal rivals KDWN's range 8)

Actually, it doesn't. 670 is 30 kw, and the antenna is less efficient, apparently. The 720 5 mv/m covers about 15% more people, and a heck of a lot more geography. And... KMZQ is highly directional, with most of the signal headed away from population areas daytime.

I'm referring to the directional nature in terms of daytime coverage. If not for the pattern both stations would not be competitive with each other once you get to Boulder City. KXNT has significant issues due to protecting 830 Tucson.

Very interesting I did not know that about the efficiency. Is this due to poorer ground conductivity where 670 - on a slightly sloped area or near the Snow Mtn. Indian Reservation - compared to where 720 is in a low spot in the topogaphy west of Lk. Las Vegas?
