Given that they keep running ads for the Sox games that are upcoming, and have been doing the Celtics for a couple years...and various other sporting events, most people should be aware that sports is part of their
format. Not only are they "WEEI 2" in some ways, but now sports is a MAJOR part of their lineup...nights
and weekends.
They just haven't added "sports" to the nickname of "The Talk Station".
And there are many similar stations that say "Talk" but air sports at night or on weekends, as it is.
WEEI carried W1's Monday Night Football and, again, would have had yesterday's first game, but they
knew people would want to talk Pats before the game. WBCN exercised exclusivity (an NFL rule;
should the Pats make the Super Bowl, don't expect that to be on WRKO or WEEI either, only WBCN.)
Don't know if WEEI, during their flashes, said "The Seahawks are playing the Bears--you can catch that over
at AM 680".
btw Finneran's bio--but not the negative stuff--is up at WRKO site. Their messageboards however have a lot
of negative feedback on his hiring and there are many "I won't listen anymore' or "I'll listen to Howie but that's it' posts.
