680 The Fan

I have to say that I think it is a shame that the Thrashers games are broadcast with a signal that does not even reach Marietta clearly at night. Is it an FCC requirment that 680 "power down" at night, or is it just cheapness on their part? Either way, I hope the Thrashers brass can find a station that the fans can actually hear the games on.

I would say if Cox Radio wants to get back into the business of broadcasting sports they should go after the Thrashers contract onces its up on 680 they have a very strong signal at night and it would be a perfect fit
______________

It's the FCC. No station in this market or most others go off-the-air or power down, by choice.

The only option would be WSB or an FM station. I don't think anyone would be interested in the Thrashers except 680 or 790. So you won't hear them at night except on the internet.

680 has to power down to protect WPTF Raleigh, NC and WWTQ Memphis.
______________

Yes, the FCC says WCNN must power down at night, from 50,000 watts to 10,000 watts. That's to protect WPTF out of the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill market. Hope that answered your question.

Southside folks(not SS Steve) can hear Thrashers on 98.1 FM.
But the burning issue here is: Who the hell wants to listen to hockey on the radio??? It's fun to WATCH but Geeezzz.....listening to pucks pounding flesh.....in stereo??
Even in a drunkin' fit, do you think Bob Neil is stupid enough to put Thrashers on a clear channel blow torch?

No worse than GA Tech fans with 790

If you are not within range of Rome's South 107 (which doesn't even broadcast all the hoops games) you're screwed.

790 is dead outside the perimeter at night. Meanwhile I can hear Larry Munson in Kentucky on a clear night. So I could really care less about hockey, when I can't hear my Jackets....ever. The life of a Tech fan in Atlanta (the hometown of the Dawgs that are 70 miles away).

Too bad the Hawks have WSB tied up. I know I'd much rather listen to the Thrashers. I live in Mississippi and get WSB as clear as a bell here at night, but when I turn it on...it's the Hawks. Talk about depressing.

I don't know how often you turn on your radio but the hawks mooved to 790 the zone this season.

Haha!! Can you tell what a loyal Hawks fan I am these days? I remember that now that you mention it...which also means I can start listening at night again.
