690 and 940 Montreal going off the air.

Great8, wouldn't this be the second time around for both stations going dark?
Might be my now-dimmed Canuck ancestry, but I recall plans for torching both of them years back, before the French and English news came on those frequencies.
If both frequencies go dark, does the treaty still hold resolute? Or do Ansonia CT get to go 10,000 omni 24/7, along with the gleeful 940 Danbury CT, New Orleans, The Big Ape in Jackosnville, Charleroi PA, Radio Reloj 940, Des Moines, et al?
Just leave my 860 and 740 alone!

Just a reminder if you don't know already. The only time you could possibly get WOKV is during the critical hours before they lower their power and go directional in which their signal seems to aim almost completely east.
I used to get them pretty good around sunset in New Jersey back when they were WAPE and then they would vanish when they went into nighttime mode.
But since 690 from Montreal is going off, it still isn't possible WOKV could change their pattern and/or nighttime power?

690 and 940 were both jumbled messes here in Bristol, CT at 7PM Eastern. but I heard a very weak station playing Oldies Music on 690. I didn't stick around to hear what it was. It's like 500 degrees below zero outside, so I wasn't gonna sit in my driveway in my car waiting for a station ID, so I just turned it off and went to where I needed to go.
I hear some foreign language station on 690 right now, the station is playing some type of easy listening love songs, including "Can't Take My Eyes Off of You" few minutes ago and it's not the original 1967 version done by, I think was, Frankie Valli. I have the antenna facing N&S; when it's facing W&E I get mostly WLW's IBLOCK.

The 690 and 940 frequencies were once the Montreal home to the French and English services of the CBC, which dumped AM in that city in favor of FM some years ago--a trend that has snowballed in Canada the past few years--several other longtime CBC outlets have also made the move, as well as many private stations.
I didn't even know these stations were going off until I was flipping the dial and heard the looped announcement on AM 940. This was around 5pm yesterday in the Akron area. I was out the rest of the evening, when I came back around midnight all I got on the frequency was a mish-mash of stuff. I've never been able to get anything intelligible on 690, even this far out from WLW, I still get IBOC hash pretty bad. It makes it difficult to pick up WOR most nights.
Had a nocturnal moment last night and listened to 690 for 1 1/2 hours between 4:30-6:00. I heard four different stations, but was unable to ID any of them. I'll list them from the most frequent to least.
-Fox Sports Radio- This one is more than likely WIST from New Orleans.
-One with ABC News at the top of the hour.
-A very weak signal with English talk. Not WIST. Heard underneath HEAVY WLW I-BLOC with radio pointed WNW. I'm thinking this MAY have been CBU Vancouver, BC.
-Another weak signal with Spanish talk. Maybe Tijuana?
It looks like 690 will be off the air for quite some time. I'll have other chances to DX these frequencies and possibly get my prized Vancouver catch. 940 isn't much different here. I only logged WGRP-Greenville, PA and possibly CJGX from Yorktown, SK which would be a relog for me.
If WLW would turn their I-BLOC off, this would be so much easier. Even 200 miles away in Southern Michigan it causes some serious headaches.
