WLW makes a mess of 690 and 710 here in Central KY. Once in a while, however, WOR's IBOC does a number to WLW !!!

Occasionally WOR's IBOC is heard on 700 around here, but WLW always is atop the channel.

WHAS really gets beat up in Indiana. At night, you start to hear IBOC noise on 840 (from a mix of WCCO 830 & KOA 850) as close as exit 29 on I-65...36 air miles from the stick. By the time you get 80 miles out, it's still understandable, but not pleasant to listen to. Once you top 100 miles north, it's mostly hiss...and at times, you can't even positively ID it as WHAS...and this is called progress?

Exactly. It's not all about DX, it's about simply servicing your local area without obnoxious infringement from hundreds of miles away. Is that too much to ask? Not like any of the rabid HD defenders will answer ...

I never understood the point of HD on AM, especially if the station is only talk.

IMO, AM Stereo made more sense and not much ever became of that.

I remember back in September 1989 after Hurricane Hugo hit Charleston S.C. when then WPDQ 690 (now WOKV) stayed at 50,000 watts non-directional at nights to primarily air their broadcasts for the people in Charleston and the surrounding areas since many of the local stations in the S.C. Lowcountry were knocked off the air for sometime. I was stationed near Camp Lejeune N.C. at the time and remember the many callers from out of Charleston.
