7 Reasons Radio People Die Younger

Nick said:
And what about RF exposure?

What about those of us who have fun, don't use drugs and such, and enjoy the challenge, the competition and the excitement?

7 reasons radio people die younger:
Sedentary, smoking, booze, drugs, loneliness, stress, psychological issues
I'm getting stressed from just the thought of it.

Hey, the first four ain't so bad! ;)

I always used to be concerned about RF exposure while I was out behind the station near the towers, having a cigarette! :'(

An engineer told me that RF exposure would lower your sperm count, or reduce your sex drive, or something like that, and I told him no big deal, working every Friday and Saturday night for years would kill my social life anyway! ::)

At a to-remain-nameless Northern Virginia AM in around 1970 we had a jock who would go out and jump on the hottest of the 4 AM towers every Friday evening. He would cling to the tower for 10 minutes or so, and jump off. The CE caught him one time, and asked what he was doing. The response was that hugging the hot tower for a time rendered him infertile for the evening, so he would not have to worry about getting a date in trouble.

Wouldn't crouching nude in front of an old color TV set do much the same thing? ::)

Not crouching. You'd have to squat in front of it with your legs apart as far as possible.

That's the Kodak moment.

All of the issues mentioned here are hardly limited to radio, but
have you noticed that from the lot -- sedentary lifestyle, smoking,
booze, workplace coffee, bad diet, drugs, loneliness, and stress --
really ALL stem from "psychological issues." And what a great
catch-all phrase that is.

Not exercising or taking the least bit of care for your body comes
from a self imposed conditioning brought about by careless thinking.
Negative traits develop from negative viewpoints - many of them
esteem issues. Loneliness and stress are available to us all, and
each of these issues, untreated, can cause sickness and increasing
mental duress. Thus the popularity of booze and drugs, both of which
perform the same function - to alter one's consciousness.

Radio like life, is ALL about psychological issues. The simple
answer is to choose the thoughts you wish to have nurtured in your
life experience, rather than take a stance with each and every one.
Thoughts all take place within our psych center, our imagination,
and, as the Chooser, we can either pay attention to them or not.
"Not" is a good rule of thumb. Liken the multitude of thoughts that
occur to you each day to a crowded boulevard and, rather than fight
with each one, just pick your way through the stuff.

Takes a little practice - or rehearsal - but hey, you're in Show
Biz. You're good at this!

What you got here Fraiser is lots of psycho babble worth at least $300 an hour.

Simply put, crappy pay + crappy living quarters + crappy food + crappy lifestyle = only the good die young. :)

Then you're already ahead 3 yards, Twelve; I posted that for free.

Well, THAT could be said to sound kinda psycho-babbely, too. Or kinda
plagiarized, as in a line repeated from a Billy Joel song, itself a
Oliver Herford quote. "Only the good die young?" Only you know how
old/young you are, not us. Only you maintain thoughts about how good
you are. I'm kinda glad you're not so damn good you're still with us.

Crappy pay, food, crib and lifestyle are the result of thinking about
lack. (And it's lazy noodling) Challenge yourself. Think abundance,
whatever that means to you, psychobabble or not. You can go beyond
logic, Twelve, so don't get stuck in that corner.

This 'crappy' radio invention was just someones crazy, illogical dream
once, but that person dared to feel his dream's success. You can feel
yours if you allow it.

"12 in a row" -so typical. Hey I am sure you don't know who posted that. But take
it for what it's worth, if you ever did you might not blow it off with some lame
Frasier reference. This is someone of value..who could likely teach you a few
things.
