70/30 vs 50/50

I'd be interested to hear any opinions or stories relating to using a 70/30 ratio on an FM antenna.

If you have one, why was the decison made to go this route? How does work in terms of performance ? Any instances where a 50/50 was replaced with a 70/30? Did this change penetration or coverage? Any listener feedback?

Any thoughts or insights to CP vs EP are helpful.

Thanks!

The ratio of h-pol to v-pol of a nominally 50/50 "c-pol" FM transmit antenna varies widely, anyway, as a function of tower reflections and obstruction -- and those ratios vary with azimuth and elevation.

Paper 6 at http://rfry.org gives some examples.

Vertical is more important then horizontal

The vertical is more important then the horizontal component, simply because most receive antennas are more vertical then horizontal. I've seen this at noncomm FM stations, where due to channel 6 considerations, some run more Vpol then horizontal. The ones with Vpol do almost as good as CP stations do, while the Hpol only ones are generally inferior to both the others.
