70's and 80's Dance Question

Have a dance station here, wondering what are the top 25-50 dance songs of the 70s and 80s that I could play that would not sound "out there" when playing the current dance songs.

He means records that dont sound too dated. Unfortunately, Dance music is all about techology and innovation on the production side so many many older records soound way out there.

Well first off, it depends on what age your playing to, as well as what genre of Dance Music you are playing.... If your playing mainstream dance you could probably get away with going back to the mid to late 80s on occasion, but I think the 70s is too dated in my opinion,,, even for a Rhythmic AC outlet. Some may disagree

Playing mainstream radio mixes like Akon, Pussycat Dolls, Britney, stuff like that. Was looking for a list of 70's and 80's stuff that would fit with artists like this not sound like a trainwreck when I play an 80's song here and there, like maybe once an hour or something.

Your examples suggest more of a CHR format as opposed to dance, however....alot of todays music is uptempo and very 80's influenced. So i think u would have no issues working in some rewind dance, whether it be freestyle, classic house, new wave, or late disco. The 70's stuff I chose was a bit ahead of it's time, and sounds more 80's.

Wow good list, some I have heard of and others I have not, so I will have to check them out. :) It's always good to get idea's from people. I hear some dance songs on the radio, which are way to burned out.

That is a great list Perry,, would be very close to what I would pick for a 80s 90s and today dance station... Interesting you listed CCCp American Soviets,,, that was an awesome New Wave Dance song that I first heard on local Modern Rock radio before it got turned into Grunge **** Rock.... That song came out during the cold war when the Soviet Union was still big and still a threat...

Also that Paul hardcastle-19 is another great song,,, way ahead of its time,, was also on Modern Rock radio back in the day.....In Knoxville Tennessee I used to here both those songs on WOKI Hits 100,,,Later I-100 and also Z-93 which was a Rock station at the time....
