Hey...

I need some help. Am looking for copies of two-three old radio documentaries or promo albums....

1... Anybody got a copy of the old History of Detroit Radio. Sure would like to have one.

2... In the mid70's the Big D- WDEE on 1500am- used a vinyl promo recording in sales pitches that was quite comical. I was an ad buyer at a suburban agency and the rep shared it with us. Had lots of voice gigs on it, comedy and such.... got any info??

3... In NYC Steve Young (at least I think it was Steve Young) anchored and produced a news documentary for WNYW, WCBS, some news news-talk station a documentary titled "Marcy: Portrait of a Teen Age Runaway" (might have been just 'portrait of a runaway'). He found a teenage 'hippie' chick supposedly out of Flint, did the interview, one side of the phone call him to parents, went into the Village or someplace like that back then and put together this show.

I do know the show won some radio awards at least in NYC. I had a tape.... yes, 7inch R-R tape of it but that's gone. I think I recall it even being available after that on LP vinyl.

Now in my old age I occasionally teach radio journalism and it was good enough in prodt. techniques and values to to teach this new generation story telling and indepth investigative journalism- with some content they often relate to.

But I need another copy. In fact would use all of them in teaching our business. Can anybody help with information about the show, how to get a copy anymore- anything you can offer is most appreciated.

Thanks...

The Steve Young documentary was called "A Child Again." I also had a copy of it, but I don't know if I still have it. It came out in 1967-8.

I think you can hear the WDEE bit at reelradio.com - I listened to it a lot before the site changed to a pay-only service and it was pretty damn funny.

DetroitRadioFlashbacks.net had the History of Detroit Radio posted there - the site is currently being redesigned and hopefully the documentary will be re-added soon.
