70's-style AM radio - anywhere locally?

I think a little definition is in order. I was not talking about radio stations, their DJ's, ad agencies, or the people who listened to whatever genre was being played. My subject was about the quality of the music. That, and that only.
That's exactly what people use their smartphones for today. They download music and set up their own unique playlists, with aural quality superior to most radio stations.

DJ's come and go. My favorites are all gone. Mostly because radio is such a miserable business they all went elsewhere.

Sure, they retired! Or you outlived them. Not an uncommon thing. Dick Clark is dead too.

Most people retire when they hit their 70s. They've saved for it, the government provides for it, and there is an entire industry built around retirement, and radio DJs are no exception. The big radio companies offer 401K plans with stock matches, so all of those former KOOL DJs are taken care of.

One of the very first things I ask anyone from England is: "Have you heard of John Peel"?

More and more I'm finding that fewer and fewer folks from the UK know who John Peel is.

That's like someone in the U.S. not knowing who Dick Clark or Wolfman Jack were.

I could have sworn I heard Andrea True Connection "More More More" - the basis for Len's "Steal My Sunshine" - on 92.7 today. That right there is worth a lifetime supply of Ladmo Bags and a crib sheet for a class at the Media Hut.

Yeah. That's because they all disappeared without a trace (like the recent KSLX female). Most of the ones I am thinking of left unwillingly and while still younger than retirement age. Some left decades ago.

The only hit song by a current pornstar, as far as I know.
