70s style beautiful music stream

Other than Music Choice's EASY LISTENING stream, this is the only other GOOD beautiful music stream I have found!

Code:
www.live365.com/play/bofbm

NO VOCALS and QUITE CALM MUSIC!!!!!!!!!

I dont like this "Modern" easy listening format such as on KAHM,etc..... I DONT LIKE VOCALS WHEN IM LISTENING TO BEAUTIFUL MUSIC and i think its sad the good quality of the 80s and earlier seems to be just about gone......

WQEZ and KAHM should be removed from your list!

They are not TRUE BEAUTIFUL MUSIC streams (They play vocals which isnt good) I dont know about the rest of them...

Depends on what period of time you began listening to the format. When I first began listening to beautiful music in the 80's, vocals were prevalent within the format, and many times consisted as much as 20% of the playlist (1 vocal for every 5 instrumentals). Most beautiful music stations today (regardless of being broadcast or internet-only) play at least some vocals in their playlist, even if it's only a small percentage. The beautiful music format might have been purely instrumental prior to the 1980's, but formats evolve over time, whether we agree with the changes or not. With WQEZ, I try to balance my listeners' varying opinions regarding vocals. Some want none, while others are more accepting of a large percentage of vocals, so I opt to air one or two vocals per hour. As they say, you can't please 100% of the listeners 100% of the time. There are instrumental-only beautiful music statiions for those who don't care for vocals. Most beautiful music listeners, however, want to hear a vocal now and then, and that is why the vast majority of these stations air them.

Wow I didnt realise you ran WQEZ,please forgive me!! (I guess i didnt notice)

I listenend to your stream the other night and the first 6 songs i loved but when i heard a vocal I dropped off......

I guess I like the original EASY LISTENING format...... Are you heard on the air bud?? (What frequency??)

It is not a problem. I am used to receiving both good and bad comments regarding my station. One must be wiling to take both the good along with the bad when doing online radio. It is nothing new. ;)

WQEZ-DB is internet-only. It is a tribute station for the former WQEZ(FM) in Birmingham, which is now WMJJ (Magic 96). It is currently part of a "network" of three online, not-for-profit beautiful music stations (WRSA-DB, WEZI-DB, and WQEZ-DB). However, each station is programmed individually and is catered to listeners on a local level.

btw, since you are interested in a purely instrumental format, please check out my friend's station, WEZI in Memphis. I shared with him your comments regarding an instrumental-only format and he wanted me to pass his info along in case you wanted to listen to WEZI. His website is http://www.weziradio.com. :)

Wow very nice,I assume they are calm pieces also?? (Like the one I provided @ the start of this thread (And like MUSIC CHOICE :)))

Surprised to see people dissing KAHM on here. Their stream is vastly popular and sources tell me they max out their capacity around the country all the time. There actually are folks (me being one of them) who adore the cheesy instrumental remakes of 1980s tunes. :p What KAHM is doing is basically about a 3 instrumental to 1 vocal ratio which is pretty much what most of the B/EZ stations were doing in the late 1980s. If it's not B/EZ, what should it be considered? I know the term "Easy Listening" was also used interchangeably with "B/EZ" back in the day, but nowadays, the term "easy listening" is interchangeable with traditional soft AC. So then what should we call stations like KAHM today?

The only issue I've really ever had with KAHM is the low bitrate stream they have used in the past. I noticed their stream has since been upgraded to 64k, and it sounds great! I have begun listening to KAHM more than previously. Kudos to the folks over at KAHM.

I do remember that the terms "easy listening" and "beautiful music" were both used during the 80s by stations airing the format. I always regarded the term "easy listening" as more of a generic term...it could entail beautiful music, but not necessarily. Beautiful music back during that time was "easy listening", but not every station that aired "easy listening" was necessarily beautiful music. For instance, many people would refer to adult standards stations back then as "easy listening" stations. Most of the general public does not know what the term "beautiful music" means, but if you say "easy listening", they have a better understanding of it. I use the term "beautiful music" for my station for historical reasons, but also as a means to connect with those listeners who listened to the format and are aware of what the format consists. As you said, though, many people today refer to traditional soft AC stations/music as "easy listening" whereas years ago they wouldn't have used that term for the format. The terms "soft AC" and "beautiful music" are more radio-speak than anything else. When I have non-radio people ask me what type of music my station plays, I tell them "instrumental easy listening" and they tend to understand what that is. If I were to say "easy listening", many of them wouldn't probably fully grasp what the format was. I prefer to use the terms "instrumental easy listening" and "vocal easy listening" for beautiful music and traditional soft AC, respectively. Both formats are easy listening, but not entirely one and the same.

I'd guess that through the 70's and 80's, the proliferation of stations with "...EZ" in their calls re-asserted the idea of "E-Z listening" with their listeners.

In the late 80's, I was an Acct Executive at WHOM in New England, a wonderful easy listening station airing the Bonneville brand of the format. My business card said "EZ 95."

Those beautiful music stations had a regal elegance about them. Even though it was likely boring for their deep voiced on-air hosts, those legendary calls were part of everyday life for millions in their markets: WPAT, WLYF, WJIB, WLKW, WHOM, KPOL...just a few that come to mind.

I was too young to appreciate those stations in their prime, but I wish I'd paid more attention. They were a special part of the history of American radio.

Hello Nick!!

I LOVE WHOM!!!!!! -- I can get them here sometimes if the conditions are right..... I remember when you guys were beautiful music!!

Isnt it sad that this format has died out on mainstream radio?? (Still many ppl who love it)
