730-00 INOVONICS RDS ENCODER

Looking at my options on an encoder. The 730-00 INOVONICS RDS ENCODER seems to be the best available at this time. Any suggestions?

We are running 3 of them and having good luck with them.

I have installed quite a few Audemat FMB80 units and have been happy with them.

I would say the FMB-80 we have had good luck with them, the RDI-20 is okay but a bit more of a pain to program. But I haven't used the inovonics box to make any comparisons on that front.

Inovonics setup is almost too easy.

I'll second that. I've installed Inovonics 701's, 702's, 711's, plus a few FMB80's and I've never had an easier to use unit than the 730. The manual is useless -- not because it's poorly written, but because it's unnecessary. The unit is so intuitive that you'll have it going in minutes. Plus, the price can't be beat -- it's simply the best value in an encoder at this time.

I like the FMB80 also, but setting the unit up for TCP/IP data delivery is a real nuisance. Setting it up requires getting into the Linux kernel.

Aw, where's your sense of adventure?

To put a fine point on it, you're actually using the FMB-80's command line interface to direct data from various UDP input ports into the proper function of the RDS encoder. For example, song title data can be sent to one part of the data stream, while alerting data can be sent to another, all via the same local IP address. If you want to go crazy, there are three more ports into which you can shove data...

...and then there are the 3 serial input ports.
