730 WDIA and 106.9 history?

I found that once WDIA was at 730. Somehow I have never stumbled on that before.

What is the history of WHHM on 106.9? I noticed those call letters also spent time on 1340. There are now in the Jackson market on 107.7.

Did 106.9 go away at some point, change frequencies, or move to become the station now serving the Jackson market on 106.9 as WWYN?

There is a book about WDIA that traces it's history from the beginning ...on Amazon and maybe at the library...quite entertaining and revealing..especially about the early owners...enjoy...JBI

WDIA moved in June 1954, per the station's own (surprisingly good) history section on their website. http://www.mywdia.com/pages/history/about/

WWYN 106.9 was a Jackson "move-in" from McKenzie (the former WKTA), so it's unlikely that there are any Memphis connections with that one. I believe they still have a sales office in McKenzie, if I'm not mistaken.

For what it is worth...WDIA Started on 730 Khz with 250 watts using a GATES 250L transmitter. According to an article in a GATES publication that I have, the station used all GATES equipment. KWAM is also mentioned in the same publication as going on the air with a GATES transmitter and licensed to West Memphis.
