740 The Game

I have a feeling 740 is gonna get jacked up soon. I NEVER hear any paid spots on the station, and today I counted in the 5-5:30 p.m. segment. A total of 2 spots, all the rest were station promos.

Is that just because the Shot can't get it done, or is the station in trouble? I realize he was at Shula's restaurant, so maybe that pays a few of the bills, but how long can 740 go without any real advertising?

I don't believe that the general public is aware that 740 is back in the sports business. There never was any buzz about their return in the media. They moved Sileo and brought back the Shot Doctor, but they never gave them any publicity. The ratings at 540 have risen in the past
year or so, and I was curious how much of the gain is attributable to instituting a morning show and moving Sileo over to The Game.
They can't be making any money, but I'll also bet that Shot could make more money stocking the shelves at the old Kash'n Karry. By now he
would be an assistant manager.

I've been up early this week and listen to the Fox Sports replay from 5-6am ... absolutely no advertising (not even national spots). On the rating subject, I don't believe ESPN 1080 WHOO even registered in the Arbitrons (and 740 the Team just a 0.4 share, way short of the prime days of 540 The Team and 2.0's).

Shot Doctor for president. It was the idiotic move to a mexican format
( note here, they hide in groveland and dont fill out diary's) and the lack
of letting people know there is a 24/7 signal back doing sports. Put that
baby in the hands of someone who knows what they are doing, and it will
pull numbers and money

The Shot Doctor has done a much better job of carrying the show than what I thought he would do, but he is still better as the sidekick/comic
relief artist than as the headliner. The Coach and Steve Egan were the best local pairing we ever had. If CC does the same with 740 that they are doing with WINZ in Miami, no one will ever know they went back to sports. With DP and Rome, they should be able to hold their own with ESPN, and their night signal is much better than 1080's whopping 190 watts. If you add their ratings shares together, you get something
that looks more like a blood alcohol content than a competitive radio station.

The problem with sports radio in Orlando is very little local content (Magic and UCF), and not particularly interesting local hosts. Shot's a decent sidekick but PM drive local hosts have to be the ratings and revenue generator for the station (see Duemig in Tampa). They should spend some money and hire Todd Wright to do a local PM drive show.

You are absolutely correct. Several years ago, WDBO had the complete Magic package-the coach's show, the general manager's show,
a one hour Magic Tonight show every weeknight, and the weekend NBA games from ESPN. Then they gave up the whole thing except for the
games themselves. They re-ran the first hour of Sean Hannity instead of running the Magic Tonight. That says everything about the interest
in sports in this area. The only semblance of intense support is for the Gators, and that's a four month run. We root for our home team, but
we are not impassioned fans. That's why The Game and The Team will fight over a one share.
