740 WNYH Good Music - Poor Presentation

Today was my first chance to hear AM 740 WNYH's oldies format. Iliked their mix of music, but I thought their presentation was poorly done. I realize this is just a temporary format, but they need to be less repetive. Also they need to stop cutting off songs and starting another in it's place. I'm also noticed some glitches in their announcement about buying time on their station.

Who owns this station anyway? My mom and I both think the guy who makes the announcement about buying time has a Polish accent.

They *could* hae something with the station. The segues are WAYTOOTIGHT and the audio is clipped like it was hair in front of an army barber, but Long Island is missing a real oldies station (playing 50s-early 60s) to make the crowd that came out from the 5 Boros happy. I know it's just a caretaker format to keep the finals warm and the Friendly Cookie Company happy, but with a little help and some advertising someone could make a nice sum.

> For great oldies and a great presentation, check out 1520 AM in
late afternoon or after dark. Buffalo's KB/1520 is incredible!
Jack Armstrong is on from 3-8pm. Talk about a great jock! They play
nothing but 50s/60s hits, including many you haven't heard in years.
Original KB jingles, some classic commercials. Great stuff! And a
kick ass signal on Long Island.

What can one expect from a hastily thrown-together, throw-away format? It's probably just WINAMP on "shuffle" with a few "broken" MP3's.

You wanna talk repetitive? You should have heard them when they were playing Hymns. (Between late summer & sometime in November.) It was the same 3 CD's in a changer... for **weeks**!! Every once in a while, someone changed one of the CD's. One was obviously custom-burned, and it remained for the entire duration. (It included two dry-voiced Station ID's, thus it's longevity.) The music was very old-fashioned Hymns. For a while, one of the CD's was a foreign language, but the melodies were familiar.

They couldn't care less about the music. They want to turn it into a "Dollar-a-Hollar" station. Believe me, when they're done, there won't be a note of music being played. Wall-to-wall infomercials will be the order of business. What a pathetic waste of such an incredible signal.

Something called "WIN Radio".

Willie...
(In CT, where 740's signal BOOMS during the day!)

Willie,

Not only was the presentation bad, but it sounded horribly overmodulated to these ears. There's nothing like driving your audio into heavy clipping, and punching holes in the carrier on negative modulation peaks.I heard 'em going back to RI to see the family. Sounded like garbage. At least when doing the hymns, the audio was pristine-almost like that from a "beautiful music" station.
They made it down here to PA in October when they were testing and forgot to drop to 50 watts from 20 kW on October 8th. They were blowing the doors off of CHWO Toronto at 6:30 pm and cut a chunk out of the coverage of my station, WVCH.
