750-AM near Bangor: Sold for $1.

WRME 750 near Bangor has been sold for $1. Sold by folks who have experience at spanish Mega Broadcasting. Sold to two folks named Hilda Gallant & Paul Salas, who also have an active CP for an 820 in North Carolina and an expired (dead) CP for that 670? right next to Burlington VT. The CP for 750-near-Bangor (Hampden) was to expire on July 29 2011, but now with new owners, it will be extended for 18 months. So the new owners have almost 21 months from now to get it on the air... 50kw by day non-directional and 10kw at night quite directional, presumably to the north. Will be the most powerful AM station in the Bangor market... but then again, so was 1200 at one time.

Forgot to mention.... 4 towers used at night. TX site about 7 miles northwest of Bangor... .beaming at night mostly in Southeast direction.

I haven't driven in the area lately to see if there's any towers but what from what I remember about TV & Newspaper reports is that there is a LOT of NIMBY resistance in the area, might need 2 million.

Let's not forget 750 used to be the AM simulcast of WHEB Portsmouth. Maybe about 15 years ago, WHEB gave up the license. I guess almost nobody was listening to the AM simulcast of a 1000 watt, day-only outlet.

I suppose WHEB-AM signing off allowed the Bangor market to get the 750 frequency.
