760 KFMB makes changes

Rick out of mornings .....

And into afternoons.

So who made the mistakes in the sentence - Slater or the KFMB PR person?

"I am excited about living in San Diego and exploring the issues that effect San Diegan’s as well as Californians and Americans.”

And that's more better news because we Sandy Eggans do care about them Californians and Americans.

The press release has whole sentences that defy grammar and there's this phrase that - while grammatically correct - defies reality, "Rick Roberts and his popular Court of Public Opinion Show."

K'mon Kuff Mub - you're (they probably think it's "your") in the communications business so the next time you have an intern write a press release, at least have a grown-up proof it before it goes out the door.

So do you think Slater will get together after his shift to have coffee with his KOGO counterpart so they can compare notes on how to pronounce San Diego place names?

You bring up a good point. I posted this press release from KFMB via my iPhone (as I am now); a cut and paste. No one screens releases anymore. Apparently I should have.

The UT is another example of adventures in language.

On a side note, I tried to renew my subscription to the paper; they only want 'auto-pay' set up. Sorry, not acceptable.

Grammar aside, this is very good news! KFMB goes back to being live and local for a majority of the day, perhaps caused by KOGO's decision to go local in the afternoons.

With DSC going to mornings at JACK, and KFMB getting back a local flavor, is this a sign that the economy is improving?

It depends. San Diego has a 12-percent unemployment rate.

And half of those are former members of the Jeff and Jef show.

I totally forgot about them until now... you think the former listeners forgot about them as well?

I read something recently that described Little Tommy as the "producer of the Jeff and Jer radio show" - not "former producer" or "producer of the former Jeff and Jer..." etc.

Heck, even Jer has given up, not having updated their blog in nine months or so (Jeff clearly gave up when the first garage show went online).

yea no more rant raving or grumpiness in the am on kfmb.......is roberts still in oklahoma being a redneck okieeee and acting like he is in san diego ;D

But is that due to economic conditions, or the fact that everyone wants to come to San Diego, regardless of whether they have a job lined up?

I think the large illegal aline population skews the numbers, but San Diego County has never reached 12% and does a lot better than California as a whole. As one local news outlet reported for the Novermber numbers:

"The 10.4 percent number compares to 12.4 percent for California as a whole and 9.3 percent nationwide."

Now if Rick Roberts had lost his job, would that raise California or Oklahoma's numbers?

Nearly all of CA is at 11% to 12% unemployment; the percentage differences between counties are often more a function of how many unemployed are no longer counted than actual differences. The reasons for high CA unemployment range from the businesses leaving the state to the high taxes to the general economy.

He should have been dumped along time ago.

I wish the new guy on KFMB alot of luck. Hopefully he gets high ratings and KOGO dumps that thing they call Chip Franklin due to KFMB's high morning ratings. I personally think it was a mistake to take Rick out of afternoons on KFMB and move him to mornings. His rathings were getting really good he had a great following, and with Roger going syndicated it gave Rick the opportunity to base his show solely on San Diego politics and take that away from Roger!

Again I wish the new guy alot of luck and good luck to Rick, he's a good guy!

I listened to Mike Slater Friday morning. He is simply unlistenable. He often speaks wayyyy to fast, slurs his words, and gives out tired old Republican talking points....on the same level you had the liberal talk show hosts last week obviously spouting Democratic party talking point accusing Sarah Palin of every demonic and sinister thing after the Tucson tragedy.

Mike Slater seriously needs a good producer/director. Wait...KFMB-AM needs a new PD -- Dave Sniff after 18 years just doesn't cut it, and the station's ratings reflect that. Talk radio needs to be "appointment radio" -- and most everything on that station is, at this point, very take it or leave it. "John and Ken" and KFI get it.

Wow, you got all that after listening to just one show? It sounds to me you had your mind made up before you even turned it on, and would have said anything negative about it regardless.

With a talk show most people are going to be able to decide in the first hour or less.

Garrett, I am a media professional, not an armchair hack: I produce/direct/write for radio and television, I have coached non-professionals to look credible on television in short order, and I appear on radio and television myself and have done so for many years. I get paid to be a professional to see immediately what works and what doesn't work.

Mike Slater's show (besides being Republican talking points -- and i'm a registered Republican) is not "appointment radio." There is really no compelling reason to turn him on in the morning. He talks so fast that he is slurring his words and thoughts which after awhile it becomes a blur and is annoying. On the other hand you have someone like LaDona Harvey who has been fantastic from her very first show. She's interesting, has good voice placement, etc. I can see that she will eventually have her own national show and be very successful at it.

Agreed.

Give Slater a chance he just needs to relax and find his way. And as for Dave Sniff, he's basically a one-man band working his a@$ off running and operating 760 by himself. Plus he is one of the few managers in radio today that worked his way up from board op to PD and basically station manager. And he is trying to bring more local and live to the station, got to like that!

Plus he must know something about programming, from what I understand he was responsible for bringing DSC to Jack-FM.
