OK - however, people who listen to Talk Radio will listen to any host as long as they're entertaining ... irregardless of their political persuasion. So ... 770 could ad Alan Colmes and Ed Schultz, and they wouldn't lose any of their cume. In fact, the 770 cume would increase, since listeners who normally wouldn't listen to an All-Conservative Stations would start listening (i.e. - those listeners to Amy Goodman mentioned above LOL).
In 1994 - The V/P of Citadel talk programming, Brian Jennings had liberals, Libertarians, and conservatives on KVI 570/Seattle and got a 6.5 share 12+, beating the heritage newsradio 710 KIRO. If it worked on KVI, it can work at KKOB, KKOH, or KGA.
I would like to see the research that shows that talk radio listeners will listen to any host thats entertaining. Yes - you might increase cume, but blow the quarter-hours - which means everything to advertisers.
Success with a format in one market doesn't mean it will work in another. Having met and chatted with Brian Jennings, he's a smart guy who knows that as well. And I'm sure he's had some influence over KKOB's programming.
Your advocating that a publicly-held company risk screwing up a cash cow. It won't happen. Case closed.

Ed, this board is for opinions. No case is ever closed here, and whether a company is public or not has no relevance here. I have also talked to Brian Jennings, and lived in Seattle when he programmed both KING n/t 1090 and KVI n/t 570. The mix of hosts on KVI of differing ideologies was an amazing success. And, I didn't even mention weekends, which were also a success, with the Laura Lee show, featuring alternative medicine, spirituality, and environmental issues. That show was also at one time syndicated on KKOB, KKOH, KGA, KVI, KXL, etc.
I just wish that people would look back in history at successful stations that offered differing viewpoints - WLS, WABC, WOR, WJNO, KING, KVI, KNBR, and today, KGO, KIRO, These stations all performed well. There's absolutely no reason why it couldn't be tried on KKOB or anywhere else. If you go to the national news/talk board, you will read
Jay Marvin's extensive and thoughtful posts about this.
