770 KKOB sounded terrible

OK - however, people who listen to Talk Radio will listen to any host as long as they're entertaining ... irregardless of their political persuasion.

NOW you know why RUSH is #1, a smart Lib talker should study Rush and then present their side the way Rush does his.

When I listen to KABQ here all it ever seems to be is hour after hour of if you don't think the way the host thinks then your stupid, America is the worst country in the world and here is my next guest to show you why you are stupid, plus you never hear the other side.

Rush is entertaining with the pardoy tunes etc and he does get away from time to time to talk about thier things like, sports,tv and other MASS audience stuff

ABQ Tom... let's harken back to the good ol' days of '94...

Bill Clinton was in power and getting plenty of nookie.
Nancy Kerrigan suddenly developed a limp.
We all get to know a guy named Newt.
No baseball thanks to greedy players.
But we did get to watch OJ on tv that summer.
Kurt Cobaine and Whitney Houston were both big and breathing - for awhile.

Things are different now... except that Clinton is still probably pulling ____.

Do you honestly think Jennings would have the same lineup today that he did in '94?

Get a life.

And....CC- indeed, we could ad several to the list who have studied Rush ... especially Ed Schultz ...

CC, Please cite some examples of hosts and what they have to say. When I listen to Air America or Ed/Steph/Bill Press, I NEVER hear that the "US is the worst country in the world." Instead, I hear passionate, patriotic Demoratic hosts, their guests, and their callers express both dissatisfaction ... AND solutions ... for our nation's current fiscal and foreign policy issues...

So ... 770 could ad Alan Colmes and Ed Schultz, and they wouldn't lose any of their cume. In fact, the 770 cume would increase, since listeners who normally wouldn't listen to an All-Conservative Stations would start listening (i.e. - those listeners to Amy Goodman mentioned above LOL).

In 1994 - The V/P of Citadel talk programming, Brian Jennings had liberals, Libertarians, and conservatives on KVI 570/Seattle and got a 6.5 share 12+, beating the heritage newsradio 710 KIRO. If it worked on KVI, it can work at KKOB, KKOH, or KGA.

I would like to see the research that shows that talk radio listeners will listen to any host thats entertaining. Yes - you might increase cume, but blow the quarter-hours - which means everything to advertisers.

Success with a format in one market doesn't mean it will work in another. Having met and chatted with Brian Jennings, he's a smart guy who knows that as well. And I'm sure he's had some influence over KKOB's programming.

Your advocating that a publicly-held company risk screwing up a cash cow. It won't happen. Case closed.

Ed, this board is for opinions. No case is ever closed here, and whether a company is public or not has no relevance here. I have also talked to Brian Jennings, and lived in Seattle when he programmed both KING n/t 1090 and KVI n/t 570. The mix of hosts on KVI of differing ideologies was an amazing success. And, I didn't even mention weekends, which were also a success, with the Laura Lee show, featuring alternative medicine, spirituality, and environmental issues. That show was also at one time syndicated on KKOB, KKOH, KGA, KVI, KXL, etc.

I just wish that people would look back in history at successful stations that offered differing viewpoints - WLS, WABC, WOR, WJNO, KING, KVI, KNBR, and today, KGO, KIRO, These stations all performed well. There's absolutely no reason why it couldn't be tried on KKOB or anywhere else. If you go to the national news/talk board, you will read Jay Marvin's extensive and thoughtful posts about this.

Post really has nothing to do with programming strategies, so I decline comment.

I have no idea what Brian's plans are, as we haven't talked for awhile. And, I would never pretend to speak for Brian on a public forum such as Radio-Info Inc.

If you happen to work at Citadel or Citadel SW, then just ask him the next time he comes to town.
