790 Rebranding?

Looks like KBME 790 will be rebranding as "SportsTalk 790." Heard a promo for Adam Wexler and Matt Jackson "starting Monday morning" and the tag was "on the new SportsTalk 790." Charlie Pallilo also mentioning the upcoming change.

Hard to understand the direction 790 is going. Whoever is running the show over there has vastly overestimated the talents of Jackson, Wexler and Thomas. The traffic guy might be good, but it's hard to tell since he's been....well....er....doing traffic. I have a feeling the guys over at 1560 and 610 are cheering this new line-up behind closed doors. Here's hoping Franklin and Dalati find new gigs quickly. Both are professional, big market broadcasters and would add credibility to all three of the other sports stations in town.

Letting Tom Franklin go is a mistake. I feel certain somebody will pick him up; can't go wrong with Tom.

What a jack-dumb move.

You give so many years to your company only to be axed weeks before Christmas.

I have never seen guys work as hard as Tom, David, and Ted did.

While Ted was pulling 6-8am and 11-3pm on 790, he was ALSO running out of the studio to do his live hits on KTRH during the morning news, not to mention, overseeing sports assignment duties.
The man pulled in 60+ hour work weeks.

610, 1560, -- someone -- would be smart to pick these guys up, pronto.
Their dedication and love for the business is something I admired about each of them.

This is just stupid.

...so goes the radio biz, I guess.

Very typical Clear Channel...to let good talent go.
Very typical Clear Channel...to let people go at this particular time of the year.

You have to wonder if the dumb-asses that run (ruin) Clear Channel actually wonder why all of Clear Channel is such a massive fuster-cluck! Do they really not get it? I mean, really??? I'm serious!!!

That stinks for all involved, especially Dalati and Franklin, both of whom I thought were solid. Although Charlie Pallilo was the sole survivor of all the recent on-air cuts, I've got a feeling he may start to cast his gaze elsewhere.

I'm trying to keep an open mind about how the changes will play out, but I quit listening to 610 when Pallilo left, so bringing over former personalities from that station doesn't do much for me. If Pallilo goes, I am done with 790.

Four sportstalkers are probably too many for this market.

I doubt Tom Franklin will hang around to do UH sports. Goodbye Tom, maybe you can take your unsportsmanlike attitude elsewhere.

I feel bad for all the guys they cut. And I think it's a little late in The Game for re-branding.

I have never heard anyone who's met Tom say something bad about him. I'd love to know where this slam comes from.

Tom's had some run ins recently that have been publicized in the media. I don't think its worth him losing his job over, and in the past I've enjoyed him hosting the Astros post game show.

No question about that take. Jackson and Wexler are second bananas. Those are roles they serve well. As anchors of morning drive they will get anniahalated by both 1560 and 610. Too bad for Wexler. He looked like he was on his way to bigger things with the Rockets or game announcing. How long will it be before 610 twists the Rockets' arm to get rid of him? As for Jackson, it appeared he had a great thing going with 610. Lots of airtime. He most certainly hogged the mike with Rich Lord with no apparant backlash from anyone over there. He even subbed for Jim Rome one day. Both will be lost and forgotten at 790 in due time.

Same here.
