790 The Zone blasts 680 for airing "picks" show one week late

I believe crazy Ike and Bob and Bubba our heritage shows that pre-date the Zone on 790. Those two shows stay there until they decide not to lease/buy that time. That is hardly the problem though. I like the Stews but I listen more to Kincade now when I want to hear solid sports stuff. Like Mortensen on Friday afternoons. I used to love hear Len Pasquerelli getting you ready for the NFL on Friday afternoon now I hear nonsense at times.

Obviously, 790 bills better than 680. You get sort of tired of hearing 6 promos in a row.
What's really sad is the other night, I had to listen to WWL New Orleans to hear Monday Night Football, because the signal came in better than 680's.
I think 790 has better local talent, other than Buck and Kincade, although the 790 Morning Show is much better when Steakie is away.
Just my .02

Is 790 still on the air? I stopped listening to that poor excuse for a sports station years ago.

Their morning show is tedious. When they has Chris and Nick on in the afternoons, it was well worth it, because they got it. 2 Live Stews? It's unlistenable. Chris and Nick understood who there audience is, and what their audience was interested in. Sportstalk listeners are an eclectic bunch that rarely is from the city where they live.

I'm not a Braves/Falcons/Thrashers/Hawks fan. I'm not a UGA/Georgia Tech fan. With ESPN and DirectTV, I don't need to watch just the local teams. Local talk is obsolete. Sportstalk needs to encompass more than just the local area. Chris and Nick did that.

And that is in a nutshell why Sports Talk in Atlanta has not caught on the way it has in other major markets. There is not an overwhelming unity of sports fans in Atlanta. 790 use to have the reputation of being the station for transplants and 680 was more down home Georgia. Neither could grab a hold. Each has become more homogenized since, with little additional audience success.

Sports Talk achieves true ratings success when the local populace truly unites behind its city and teams.

Zoneguy, You seem to know the inner-workings of sports radio a bit. What is they were creating one Atlanta sports talk station using only the talent that is working at 790 and 680, including the syndication pieces. What combination do you think would work. I know that I was a huge fan of the Bottom Line when it was a mid-day show. Whe they went up against Buck and Kincaid they seemed to lose their way a bit trying to make sure they were covering the same subject matter. I know that Bell would have to be part of the equation for me. Kincaid seems to have built himself the most successful career of all of them with his ESPN exposure and Dimino is like part of the family. What combo could work?

I don't listen to the morning show that often, but I think Bell and Cellini are the most entertaining, and Dimino really is one of the best. It is an easy decision to switch to dan patrick when monsters of the midday comes on. Chuck smith may have been a good ball player, but is a terrible talk show host. I don't know how Chernoff can stand it day after day. Stews are funny and chuck oliver is my favorite. Wes Durham is boring.

I don't think a lack of talent is the issue at all. Dimino, Bell, Cellini, Chernoff, Kincaid, Rude are all comparable to the top performers in just about any local market. The Stews are unique and every city has it's local legend Buck type on the air.

Even combining the best of the best. Say Rude, Cellini, Bell in the morning, followed by Dimino, the Stews, Buck and John would probably only do marginally better than what is on now. To me it is all about Atlanta not being the type of city to be really ripe for the format.

On topic: I'll say I can't blame Steak for pointing out the ridiculous situation with that show on 680. I think 790 is a far better station quality-wise fwiw.

Off topic: I'll give my quick assessment of the sports radio talent in this town if anyone would like to discuss it.

Chris Dimino is a fantastic talent imho. I've enjoyed listening to him since he was on 680 with Stu Klitenic.

Chuck Smith was one of my favorite Falcons, but he seems to start, stop, stumble and stutter through most thoughts he has.

Chuck Oliver is probably my favorite of the local guys now. I hate that he doesn't have a daytime show and I enjoy his guest spots on the regular shows.

The Stews are wearing thin on me a little bit, but I still enjoy listening to them. It was easier to listen to them when they were on opposite O'Reilly though. On a related note I listen to Buck and Kincaid more than I ever have before. If Mayhem in the PM or even the old Big Show was on opposite them I don't think I'd ever listen to B&K.

Cellini is hilarious and I wish they would pair him with Dimino again. I enjoy the Dimino Show with Brandon Leak, but the Bottom Line was probably my favorite show during its run.

Mike Bell is funny. I don't enjoy bits and it seems like they have gotten away from them over the years. I think that has helped me enjoy his talents more actually.

I used to really have it in for Steak, but he's better now. I don't know if my attitude towards him mellowed or what. I think Beau is funny when he's on the air from time to time as well.

Chernoff was best with Oliver on Southern Comfort. I have to give him credit for making Monsters work as well as it does really. Although I do listen to more Dan Patrick than I would have ever expected. I particularly enjoy the hour he does with Keith Olbermann.

Colin Cowherd is a tool, but he makes good points from time to time and I at least enjoy listening to his nonsense.

The Rude Awakening doesn't do it for me. I liked Dukes in his roles on 790 back in the day, but those three together just don't do much for me. I do listen when they have some of the scheduled guests on.

I'm sure I'm forgetting someone.
