8 Dropping the Ball on Alleged "hate crime" Story

So, for all the chest beating that "Promptor" has been giving Channel 8 for their excellent coverage, I'll find it interesting to see if he/she has any insight on the recent story uncovered by Channel 13 last night at 6pm on the alleged "hate crime" incident that took place last summer. In a damaging report that I saw last night, Rachel Barnhart reported that the people who are suing the RPD for alleged "gay bashing" were actually the AGRESSORS in the incident that took place and that the RPD top brass along with the Mayor's office were too quick to judge and blame the officers. Turns out, if you read the entire document, the complainants are liars and their stories have more holes in it than swiss cheese. Needless to say, just about every media outlet jumped all over this story when it came out and took the side of the complainants. Channel 8, if I remember, was all over this and touted their coverage as the catalyst for the RPD and Mayor's office to pursue reprimands on the police officers involved. What say you now Channel 8? If you ask me, Channel 13 once again proves why they're still on top. Responsible reporting by veteran reporters.

No, no axe. I gave them props in a previous post on their coverage of the Spitzer scandal in Albany. They did a great job there, but I call it like I see it. If you're going to cover something as explosive as this "gay bashing" incident and pat yourself on the back for what you've done, then I think you need to be taken to task for at least not staying on top of the story and reporting these latest developments. Have you read the documents posted on 13's website? It's very damaging. It actually makes the RPD and Mayor's office look like they screwed up big time. I think this story takes all the news organizations to task. Not one, except 13, has reported this yet. Why?

Publishing a confidential document, yeah I'd brag too. Now the city is launching a criminal and internal investigations as to who leaked that document. Great journalism, great news creating, great everything.

I'd put EXCLUSIVE all over that one.

More like trying to play catch up and desperation.

13 playing catch up? The story shows there's no catch up to play at all. There was no story in the first place. The documents need to be made public. If they arrest anyone or if the reporter goes to jail it'll only help their career.

and when there's a real hate crime case with a real victim and with an actual person arrested and charged in Spencerport the only people to report it are the D&C and 10. Where's 8, 13 and RNews? They go overboard with coverage on some made up story and ignore this. I guess its pick and chose journalism.

Channel 10 did a good job with that story. I saw it on all the stations after the arrest.
