800 - 1000: What does your AM band look like at night?

From Ocean Beach, Ca, my 800-1000 dial is virtually identical to tfcwings in El Cajon although KOMO often over powers KCEO from northern San Diego County.

Before the clear channels were broken up DX was a lot easier, even from the west coast WBZ, WCBS, WABC (when KOB was off), WCAU, KMOX, WBBM, WLS, WJR were pretty regular catches. WCCO, WHO, KSTP, WFAA-WBAP, KOMA, weren't even worth talking about.

from just a bit south of Pittsburgh, PA

800 - CKLW, Windsor - usually quite strong
810 - WGY, Schenectady - sporadic
820 - wobbles between WBAP and CHAM
830 - WCCO, amazingly steady given the distance
840 - WHAS, Louisville
850 - assorted slop, if any usually WKNR Cleveland
(but never ever WNTJ, Johnstown, PA. Only 60 miles
away, but highly directional)
860 - WAMO-AM, local. They obtained a major post-sunset
power upgrade from 24 to 3000 watts several years ago.
Could previously get a French signal from Canada here.)
870 - WWL, but usually walked on by WAMO
880 - WCBS, strong as local
890 - WLS, Chicago
900 - CHML, Hamilton. Either very strong or nearly inaudible,
no in-between
910 - slop, never caught a discernable ID. Supposedly local
WPTT-AM is moving to this freq. from 1360.
920 - WMMN, Clarksburg, WV. Sporadic.
930 - nada, slop
940 - mix of CINW, Montreal, and very weak post-sundown
signal of WFGI, Charleroi, PA (simulcast of several
Froggy FM rimshot signals around Pittsburgh)
950 - nothing (I believe WWJ is too directional)
960 - WFIR, Roanoke, VA - sometimes incredibly strong,
walking on local 970
970 - WBGN, Pittsburgh - signal a bit wavering and choppy
despite being very local.
980 - sports station, have never ID's, think maybe WTEM, Washington
990 - CBW, Winnipeg - probably the most distant signal I get on a
regular basis.
1000 - WMVP, Chicago - like local. If I want to hear something on ESPN
after sundown will generally tune here, as even the DX signal is
easier to listen to than the lisping buzzing IBOC mess generated
by WEAE.

sorry, 970 is WBGG. WBGN is a local LPTV that has stolen
a call signal from Bowling Green, KY.

Interesting, Freddy -- your band sample from Pittsburgh is quite similar to mine south of Chicago. I didn't know that CBW made it to Pittsburgh so well; it's quite strong here, even right up against WMVP Chicago.

Outside of the 800-1000 segment... I used to listen to KDKA fairly often here. Now it seems to get trounced by IBOC from WBZ almost every time I try, and because Boston and Pittsburgh are roughly the same direction from me, I can't null-out WBZ or KDKA separately.

No possibility the 980 is Dayton's "Homer", WONE? The nighttime and in Chicago, Southern Michigan and Pittsburgh look pretty similar to my Springfield/Dayton scan. I have recieved WFIR clearly and I forgot about WWJ on 950.

I'm too lazy to do all of the call letters but here goes from central Massachusetts using my Bose Wave radio w/ so so tuner (but it's pretty directional):
CKLW- 800 Windsor Ont-sometimes strong, sometimes not.
WGY-810 Schenn, NY, surprisingly poor for so close by (about 125 mi OTA
820 NYC- poor to so so because of local 830
830 WCRN-Worcester (Woostah) MA
840-WHAS Louisville-despite some interfence from WCRN, the station comes in consistently and has provided many hours of listening enjoyment w/ their BB games over the years.
850--mix of very poor semi local WEEI Boston and other mumbo jumbo. I keep trying for KOA but the odds are not with me.
860-strong canadian station-Mont?
870-weak WWL mostly in every nite
880-WCBS-very strong, little fades from about 150 mi.
890 WLS Chi town-pretty consistent, fair signal
900-Hamilton ont-
910-mostly mumbo jumbo
920-WHJY Providence or station from Canada
930+950 WPEN and WBEN from Philly and Buffalo
940-Montreal-so so
960-970-mostly empty sometimes something comes in but haven't really tried to ID.
980=usually Wash DC sports radio-not rreally worth listening to
990-Spanish-sometimes mixed in with other stations I really haven't tried to ID
1000-WMVP- Chi- quite strong most nites despite strong 1010 from NYC.
Of those frequencies/stations- I tend to listen to WHAS, WCBS, and WMVP.

Not that you are missing much. KD's programming line-up has degenerated to little more than health-care infomercials, syndicated stuff you can hear on a thousand other stations, and Tradio (yes.....TRADIO!). A sad end for an historic signal. When I lived in Michigan, WBZ would blow KD off the dial years before IBOC.

Maybe WALE from Greenville, Rhode Island. They just came back from the dead cuz I'm seriously doubting your getting the 80 watt flamethrower from Southington, CT known as WXCT. WALE is Spanish AC. Slow Music, WXCT is Spanish Christian. (both preaching and music)

Here in Albuquerque this what I've found the 800-1000 part of the AM looks(or should that be sounds? :))like at night:

800: XEROK-Juarez
810: KSWV-Santa Fe
820: WBAP
830: Mess-I once heard KLAA though
840: Nothing
850: KOA Denver
860: KARS(local)
870: WWL on occasion
880: KRVN-Lexington, Nebraska
890: Nothing
900: XEW on occasion
910: KBIM Roswell-weak
920:KSVA(local)
930: Nothing
940: Nothing
950: Nothing
960: Nothing
970: Nothing
980: KMIN Grants, NM
990: Nothing
1000: KKIM(local)

i'm wondering what that was on 900 im hearing. playing music but talking in spanish. (here in pensacola, fl)

Are you sure that's not WOFX Troy, NY? It's also an all-sports station. It gets out to Boston at night, interfering with co-channel suburban WCAP Lowell, MA 25 miles to the north. I'd think it would hit central MA directly on its way out here.

Eli P-you are probably right although I have heard numerous references to the DC Sports Teams. the quality of the signal was quite poor. I'll give it a listen to later tonite.

They come in here in NC sometimes.
I use to listen to Steve Czaben on Fox Sports Radio when he was on evenings.
