80's Classic Rock/Classic Hits

If you're a big fan of 80's music this is a truly great time to be in the Cincinnati-Dayton area. As you cruise acroos the dial you can choose from 92.5 The Fox, Fly 92.9, Rewind 94.9, The Eagle 95.3, 102.7 WEBN, WGRR 103.5, and 104.7 WTUE. A different 80's flavor for everyone. I don't know if any other mid to major size market has this much variety of 80's music (with a little bit of "other" eras mixed in). Personally, I love it! Your thoughts?

Sounds about right to me !!

With the exception of FLY 92-9, the "variety" statement is a lie. ::)

Put them all together and you still have a fairly small rotation

I agree Tanksback. With the possible exception of Fly, the 80's based stations are an inch deep and a mile wide with an average of 250-300 titles in their libraries.

I agree. I think the most variety heard on Cincinnati radio, of recent years, was during the stunting pre-Journey.

I spent a year in a market with one big signal heritage classic rock, a 2-signal rimshot satellite Jack, and a rimshot 80s/90s/Now. This is 80s utopia compared to many other places.

That's a pretty wide playlist, I could do without the hair metal, the cheesy songs like "Centerfield", and Survivor. But I guess there aren't enough fans of the really obscure 80s stuff I like (Meat Puppets, Minutemen, XTC, The Replacements, etc.) to support an FM station. All I can say is thank jebus for the interwebs!

Why not email the requests in? ClassX has done a good job in playing requests and adding tunes people ask for both new and old. I too enjoy the station compared to the same old CC and cumulus stuff over and over and over.....

Let me guess... you were born in the 1980s, right?

Yeah- because hearing the SAME 100 songs across 7 stations. Just what I wanted to hear. ::)

On the commercial side, Fly 92-9 has the "variety"... I just heard "Take a Picture" by Filter. Earlier, I heard "Dream Police" by Cheap Trick, one of my all time fave driving songs... and the corny "Stacy's Mom" by Fountains of Wayne.

Rewind 94.9 could be a very fun station. The imaging and "stationality" is fabulous. Rewind falls terribly short by burning out songs too quickly: Last night, around 8PM, I heard "Let's Go Crazy" by Prince. I heard it again today at 3PM. Prince has more than the 4 or 5 songs that Rewind runs into the ground... I also can't understand what's up with Fleetwood Mac on Rewind. I'm a fan, I'll admit it, but it seems odd that I hear "Gypsy" on Rewind quite often. I don't hear anything from "Tango in the Night" (1987) which was a huge album on AOR, AC, and CHR. Where's "Little Lies" or "Seven Wonders" or a very fun upbeat song... "Big Love"?

Give it a rest with John Mellencamp. A day doesn't go by that Rewind doesn't play "Jack & Diane" or "Smalltown"... enough already.

It seems to me that Rewind would be a perfect station to air Casey Kasem's "Classic AT-40" as well, but on the weekends, we are just treated to "More of the Same"...

It's not just about the music. Jay and Steve are great, but Rewind seems to miss the mark and fall short in other areas. The morning show should "super serve" the audience. "Hi, my name's Ray!" is a farce.
