80s Pop On KPLV

I noticed that PARTY 93.1 has started playing some 80s pop. Some of the songs I heard included

Cyndi Lauper-Girls Just Want To Have Fun
Human League-Don't You Want Me
Eurythmics-Sweet Dreams
A-Ha-Take On Me

I think this is a good move because the market is saturated with current based formats. KPLV sounds more Hot AC now which is a format that does well with PPM. It sounds to me like a mainstream bright AC with a rhythmic lean.

Hearing these 80s songs has started me thinking that there is a hole for an all 80s-90s station. A station that would be a music machine with minimum personality that plays the safest, biggest hits of the 80s and 90s. Something like an updated version of the old STAR 102.7. I wouldn't listen to it myself, the whole concept sounds really boring but these types of formats seem to thrive with PPM.

A case in point is WPOI/Tampa (the POINT). They were an 80s and more that sounded exactly like KSTJ did. They used to have high ratings but the format burned out. Adding some safe 90s music didn't help. But Cox just let it sit there for years. It's a good thing they did. It's a whole new world with PPM...WPOI went from being one the lowest rated diary stations to #2 in cume in PPM!

If 80s and more STAR was still around I'm positive it would do well with PPM. Yes JACK will go up for sure but a station playing more familar, even burned out, music with no spice or surprises would do even better.
