80's weekend on Dave

I think that Dave FM missed the mark this weekend. They had an 80's weekend and the playlist couldn't have been further from what they claim they are.

When Prince's Let's go crazy came on, I did just that! Went crazy. This is NOT an Alt Rock track or AAA ditty. This was top 40 all the way.

Now I graduated HS in 1983, so the 80's sound is close to my heart. But there are these things called "FORMATS" and this means you play one type of music. You're supposed to play songs inside this "FORMAT", So when Aunt Edna wants a little Merle Haggard she tunes into the country station. Now sometimes songs reach into other "FORMATS" and thats ok, these are called Crossover's. In this case Prince would have been fine, if it were more of the underground stuff like Controversy. When I hear an 80's Weekend on a "AAA" I want to hear maybe a little more Clash, Joe Jackson, Elvis Costello, Squeeze, The Smiths, etc.........

If i were listening to B985 and they played Let's Go crazy, I wouldn't be squawking.

Au contraire Frankie. Prince was played on many rock stations across the country in the summer of 1984. In Chicago, rockers like the Loop and WXRT played him along with the usual top 40 and urban stations.

Recently DAVE-FM has gone in a more 1980's bent. It seems to me that 1 out of every three songs in an 80's song. About 20 of their top 100 songs were released in the decade. Dunno if this is the Sign ☮' the Times (Notice the Prince reference) or not but I know there's somethings going on (Another 1980's reference).

I checked yes.com the other day and did notice a stronger 80s bent on Z90Dave than previously.

But to Fenway Frank's point, Prince is NOT alt or AAA material, even if AOR and MTV played Prince back in the day (96 Rock was the first to play "Purple Rain" in ATL), simply because 1980s AOR is not the same as 1980s alt. Dave is definitely breaking format with Prince.

Now, if CBS is tweaking Dave to more of a Jack-type, wide-track format but with more of an AAA flavor than the typical mainstream CHR or AOR flavor of wide-track stations, Prince could work.

Is Dave trying to emulate B98.5's 80s weekends but with a different flavor? Don't adult-oriented stations typically have poor ratings on the weekends if they stick with their Monday-Friday format?

FF-I think you may be focusing too much on 1 song. I tuned in lat Saturday afternoon and was transported back to my senior year in HS when they played "Gone Daddy Gone". The last weekend they did this I heard Adam Aunt and took another trip to 1983...I think they're nailing it! I say keep it up!
