80's weekend on wcbsfm

:) Its OK but I always loved the 60's and 70's music better, some great songs in the 80's. I was bringing up 3 small children then and really only got to listen in the evening to radio. I could go for a MONKEE"S Weekend :) just MONKEE me out LOL Have a good weekend everyone ;)

I think the 80s certainly need to be part of the fabric of CBS FM in 2012 but I'm not comfortable with the ldea of an all 80s weekend. Like I wouldn't be comfortable with an all 60s weekend at this point either.

I believe this is exactly why CBS-FM rotates between the 60's, 70's and 80's when it does its theme weekends (e.g. "number ones"). When Rewound does all 60's weekends, at least they promise "no repeats", and as an added bonus, there's no commercials.

I have never worked with PPM but, I assume the radio stations get (with a couple of day delay and $$$) a hourly or quarter hourly breakout of Arbitron without the delay of diaries. If the 80's weekend did well expect more. If it didn't I doubt it will be repeated. Someone at CBS, CC, Cumulus and the other operators probably has the results now or in a couple of days.

I wish if CBS-FM is planning to do a 90's weekend in the next 3 years, they should play Celine Dion, the Offspring, Gyn Blossoms, the Raspberries, some 90's Madonna, some early Britney Spears including "Baby One More Time", the Backstreet Boys, the Rembrants doing the "Friends" theme, Aerosmith "I Don't Want to Miss A Thing" from "Armeggedon", Seal's "Kiss From a Rose", Real McCoy's "Another Night" along with some great 90's classics like C+C Music Factory doing "Gonna Make You Sweat", Snap's "The Power", Jade's "Don't Walk Away" and the classic song in which CBS-FM will play is "Losing My Religon" by REM. this song a huge New York hit in 1990 when it was played on Z100 back in the day. Let's hope if CBS-FM will bring in the 90's in the next 3 years in 2015. As MC Hammer would say "It's Hammer Time!"

I hope CBS-FM would play 80's stuff all weekend long. "Fox Oldies" never had any of the 80's songs, just the selected pre-Beatles stuff as well as 50's, 60's and 70's thrown in except a few 80's songs are being heard as part of the syndicated version of Dick Bartley's "Classic Countdown" show, the CBS-FM edition is heard on Sunday nights as well.

They have to be very selective for the 90's.....way too much rap & R&B that would not fit the format, even as "classic hits"....."Baby Got Back" from 1992 on CBS-FM, that'll be the day.

"Set the Night To Music" by Roberta Flack & Maxi Priest, is a great example of a 90's song, that will fit the format, as well as Lisa Stansfield. Also 1990 "Tom's Diner" would fit nicely as well as "Crazy" by Seal from '91

Britney Spears on CBS FM?!?! Even Britney herself will feel old.

And don't forget "Beauty and the Beast" by Celine Dion and Peabo Bryson, that will fit the station, and it's from a Disney film as well as "A Whole New World" with Regina Belle and Peabo Bryson. This song is from another Disney film "Aladdin", and it will fit nicely to the CBS-FM's playlist in the future when it rolls around in the next 3 to 5 years or so, maybe by 2015 perhaps.

As far as CBS-FM playing 90s music a few years from now, Celine Dione would be a good fit. CBS-FM would have to concentrate on playing mainly AC artists. Like a previos poster noted, Hip-Hop songs would not mix well on CBS-FM. I would add neither would Heavy Metal.

Thanks,
Kevin L. Sealy

No its WAY TOO SOON for CBS to even be thinking about the 90s. I wouldn't even give it a thought til 2020 at the earliest.

@Oldies76 - "The Motown Song"? Hello?

Yeah, can't forget that song too...

I guess any artist that had older hits in the 70's and 80's like Rod Stewart, that had hits in the 90's...would fit.

Can't forget Santana's "Smooth" from '99....On the other hand, "Maria Maria" may not fare well...who knows??

Now that CBS-FM plays too much 80's music all weekend, WLTW's "Lite-FM" also has an "80's Weekend". Looks like "Lite-FM" is going head-to-head with CBS-FM with an all 80's weekend war. And don't forget WRKS' "Kiss-FM", they're doing the "Ladies of the 80's" weekend. 80's music on all three stations all weekend are such an overkill.

@Oldies76: "Maria Maria" - a little too uptempo for CBS-FM. Maybe if they removed Wyclef Jean from the vocals... ???
