Did some station near the San Diego market on 810 forget to go to night power? I normally cannot hear anything during the day on 810, and KGO usually comes in clearly at night, but tonight someone is stepping on it.

I heard them earlier today....some Christian staiton?

Between 8pm and 9pm, I think I heard music with lyrics in Spanish. An hour later, I still heard music but the lyrics sounded like they were in English.

Possibly KSWV Santa Fe NM, which is licensed 5kW days and 10w nights.

Programming seems to be eclectic enough to fit what you heard:

Or, it could be the Hermosillo, Sonora 5 kw staiton that runs a kind of CHR with English and Spanish pop songs. XERSV are the calls, but it identifies as Radio Alegria. Often heard in LA under KGO in the KABC sidebands and the KMXE IBOC slop.

Last night on Bernie Wards program during the eleven O'clock hour I clearly heard the "Theme from Summer Place." I also heard that Spanish language station too. Do you think the signals were bouncing off all that dense air caused by
hurricane rita filling the gulf?

AM station propagation is determined in the lower ionesphere, and generally, except for producing static, is uaffected by local or regional weather conditions.

we are in the middle of some extreme solar activity, which has caused lots of N/S skip in the East. This may be what is bringing in one of the Mexicans on 810 in SoCal.

I wonder if this is a violation. KGO is a 1A Clear,
what's a 10k New Mexico station shooting out to
s/w Ca?

KGO is not an old 1-A clear, as it is highly directional. 3 towers in the bay towards San Jose.

The NM station is 10 watts, not 10 kilowatts at night.

And the interfereing station is the one in Hermosillo, verified by actual monitoring in the Coachella Valley last weekend.

>Okay I noticed on a late night trip up the 5 towards
Northern California that KGO was unusually noisy.
It's nightime signal in So Cal is now greatly diminshed
from either or IBOC and the Baja stations.

Is it just some unusual skip? I think I may have just heard 870 WWL. I tried to get it last year, but couldn't, but I heard someone talking about the 17th street canal and industrial canal on 870 just 30 minutes ago.

Update: Just heard the following on 870, from SD area...
Advertisement from Louisiana DMV (probably WWL)
Mention of WWL.com (almost certainly WWL)
CBS news at the top of the hour (not sure...anyone know? does WWL run CBS news clips?)
Pinging sound like sonar in the old submarines (really not sure where that one was coming from)
Mention of not only AM but FM frequencies, followed by announcement of "United Radio Broadcasters Of New Orleans"

I am fairly sure that I could not hear all these signals the last time I listened on 870 at around the same time of day.
Edited by awj223 on 09/30/05 07:17 AM.

Mexico watts are different than U.S.A. watts. What? That is what a former Tijuana owner told me.

So it must be true.
______________
