8100A for streaming

There was a thread that discussed removing the pre-emphasis from an 8100A to use it for streaming. I found a thread, but it must be the wrong one. In the thread I'm looking for, someone suggested removing a couple of small caps from the 8100A to remove the pre-emphasis. I recall some enthusiastic thankful responses to that tip. Can anyone point me toward that post?

Bob,
You need to remove r614 and r648 on card 6 to remove pre emphasis.
I suggested it on the thread you were referring to.

Paul.

Or you could build a simple de-emphasis circuit to attach to the test out jacks.

I suppose the high end will be brighter if it isn't managing the 75us curve, but where does that leave the HF limiters/clippers and the main clipping thresholds in the scheme of things?

Removing the resistors would eliminate pre emphasis as well as the hf limiter.
I would only do this if you were using higher bit rates, say 256kb mp3 and above, otherwise i would leave the pre emp and limiter active and use de emphasis circuit between the test jacks and the soundcard.

I assume you have a spare 8100a to use on the stream, but as Goran points out a proper processor for streaming is a better option, especially with low bit rates.

I hooked up my 8200's digital out direct to a stream with excellent results at 192kb mp3 (with de emp enabled,or flat as selected).
