8100A pre emphasis...

Is there a way to disable the pre emphasis on an 8100A? I'm trying one out as an internet stream processor and I think the pre emphasis needs to go.

Probably the easiest way to disable pre emp on the 8100a is on card 6,lift one side of R614 and also one side of R648.
Let me know how you get on.

Or you could build a simple de-emphasis network with a couple of resistors and capacitors. That works well, is cheap to do and leaves the 8100 undisturbed should it need to be used as an on-air processor again without having to modify it again.

Thank you for the great tip. I will give it a try and let you know how we make out. BTW: I'm still looking for a decent 9100 Optimod. If anyone knows where to locate one give me a shout.

Jim

Thanks for letting me know.
Just wondering,as you now have no pre emp,and the op has no de emphasis, how does any distortion sound with the clipping control turned up,compared to a standard 8100a when listening to a tuner with de emp ?

Also i wonder how your 8100a would sound with an xt2 installed ?

I might try my 8100a/xt2 with the pre emp disabled sometime !
