820/WOSU now 820/WVSG "Saint Gabriel Radio"

For those who don't follow the Columbus discussion board, long time public broadcaster WOSU sold their AM frequency to a local Columbus Catholic broadcaster. Just checked this A.M., and Catholic related programming was on.

In case you didn't know, for a portion of their broadcast life, WOSU was one of those clear channel daytime stations authorized to stay on past normal local sunset, until the dominant clear channel station sunset time, in this case 820/WBAP (&WFAA). Being owned the Ohio State University and a public broadcaster also put it in a small category of AM stations. WOSU remains on FM and also operates a long-time public TV station.

I'm not a fan of public broadcasting, but I do regret the disappearance of this long-time and unique AM DX target.

Yup... Like you, I am no fan of public radio, but WOSU will be missed. I lived in Ohio for many years in my younger days and found WOSU could be heard anywhere in the state and beyond during the day. I also heard the new Catholic programming on 820 this morning on my GE Superadio here in central KY.
