830AM ?

From the Really Curious Dept:

Anyone know if whoever is sitting on the license for 830AM has any plans for it?

Also, did 1210AM (Dahlonega moved to Lawrenceville - I think) go all digital with Korean stuff on it?

I understand the night operation for 830 AM requires several towers which MUST be located in a small area around Sandy Springs (or the surrounding area)I think they have had zoning issues, not to mention the high price of real estate in the area. The FCC will NOT allow daytime only operations so the night service must be built if the station goes on the air.
WDGR is owned by Ms. Hye Cha Kim so it doesn't surprise me that Korean programming is on the air. The move-in to Lawrenceville is still an application....no construction permit has been issued.
Are they running HD?

The nighttime for 830 requires 6 towers for about 1500 watts. I couldn't imagine what the cost of the land for that would be or even a lease. You would think a shopping center would be a more profitable use of the land.

On 1210, it's caught up in a mutal exclusive situation with WGFS in Covington moving to 1220 and there was also an application for 1220 at Forsyth, GA. 1210 in Lawrenceville can't co-exist with Covington and maybe Forsyth but I bet it would take some signal measurements.

We have a CP to move one of our AM daytimers to Lithia Springs on 890 with 5000 watts daytime and the Gordon, GA AM on 1120 has an application to move to Smyrna and WISK in Americus has a pending application to move to Lawrenceville on 990.

Would 830 have required fewer towers if it had gotten on the air before
the station in Greensboro (kernersville?) NC that has 10 kW DA at night?
I seem to recall that allocation was made back in the 80s...

I first discovered the 830AM CP on radio-locator a couple of years ago. I forgot the calls (I want to say WFGB or WGFB or something similar.), but I do remember a "location" of 4 towers next to Ga.400 north of Holcomb-Bridge Rd. (REAL prime property! I never forgot that map.) I believe the station was supposed to be 50kwD/1kwN DA-N(or 2) (similar to GST).

WTRU/Kernersville, NC has 5 towers that shoot the signal strongly toward the east at night.

830 WTRU is on the far northern edge of the Winston-Salem city limits off 66 at Baux Mountain Road. Hearst (WXII-TV 12) moved 830 closer to their Winston-Salem studios in 1998 as 830 WXII-AM. 830 wasn't a new station. It was a religious station in Eden for a number of years and switched to Beach Music in 1995. Later it became ESPN Radio, before Heast moved it. It was an all news radio station, used to promote WXII News Channel 12, and the studios were near the LJVM Sports and Entertainment Complex at Coliseum Drive. When Hearst got out of radio, they sold it to Stuart and it became a Conservative Christian Talk station. It's the only AM radio station that reaches every county in the market, both day and night. It's 50k day and 10k night. I still think Infinity should've purchased it and sold-off 1200. Move the programing and WSJS calls to 830, where the market's talk radio format belongs. I can listen to 830 at night here in Gwinnett County. When I lived in Charlotte, I could listen to it both day and night. I will admit to checking for it sometimes at night. It's good to hear someone say Winston-Salem or Triad or 52, or between the two I-40's, Wake Forest or ads for some of the businesses there again.<P ID="signature">______________
